I had a Honda Accord in the 80s that I just drove like rented mule and all I had to do was put a timing belt on at 65k sold it at 80k. Had a Ford Ranger new that I drove till it had 120k and sold it. It was a manual 4x4 loaded and everything still worked except the 4 wheel drive that needed a 400.00 dollar fuse to fix it. Living in Georgia I never used it. They kid who bought it was very happy driving away. Best two Vehicles I've ever owned. My ex had a Camry bought new and it had 120k on it and was running strong with no problems last time I saw it.

Accord has a CVT paired with the 1.5 L engine, but a 10 speed with the 2.0 L in the Accord. CVT's are the future and are blamed for what essentially amounts to tuning for fuel economy over performance.

I dont disagree, just that theres been some "teething" pains(coughNISSANcough) with what is essentially old tech at this point. I'm sure CVTs are as reliable as theyve ever been right now.

Just bought an S60 a couple months ago. Liking it so far.

Best kept secret in the auto industry. I've had two S60s and my sons have S80s. All rock-solid cars from 2000 to 2012. Good user forums out there to help you through any issues that arise. It's a tight-knit community. No experience with the newer models. I think the 2005-2009 models are the best. When mine wear out (approaching 200k), I'll look for a low mileage replacement and steer clear of the new stuff.

Lol, there is so much to comment on in this thread now:

1.) It's true, Mazda's new engine will be basically a diesel that burns gas; no spark plugs, just high compression to ignite the gas. Sounds interesting, but we won't have access to it until summer, maybe fall, and I needed a car now, so I thought...well, I love manuals, and they don't sell well, give me the best you've got! Boom!

2.) Subaru is the one brand I revere along with Mazda right now, as they are almost indestructible and always come with 4 wheel drive, which is so, so great. However, I drove a friend's WRX, and it felt more plain and boxy on the inside and its clutch managed to be both sticky and stiff. I hated shifting in it. I then had her drive my 3, and she was like "This car isn't as fast, but oh my god the shifting is so much better!" *shrug* Now with my bigger 2.5L engine, I feel like I get the best of both worlds there; I'm not going to beat anyone with anything serious in a drag race, but I can do 0-60 in 7 seconds and for a daily driver, that kind of power isn't bad at all.

3.) I always thought the older (80's and 90's) Ford trucks were the best of their class? I used to live in small town Florida, and I had a friend with an F150 that was awesome, and another friend with a Ranger with off-road tires on it. Both seemed like amazing trucks, at the time.

4.) The DC Metro is fiiiiiine. It's like the T in Boston, though; it gets you to a general area and then you have to walk or take a bus. New York City's subway is complicated but there is nothing like it in terms of getting you to where you need to go quickly. I miss both cities tremendously.

Note: I was just in Chicago, and the El is fine there, too, but like DC and Boston, again, it's more of a "Get you to a general area" and then its all on you. Also, holy crap that wind is cold when you're up in the air 100 feet.

Oh, for all of you car people, I'd like to know the following:

This Mazda 3 is brand new. It has literally like 55 miles on it.

One day in the future, soon, I was thinking of buying and installing (or paying a shop to install) a short-ram cold air intake with filter. That way, it just removes the factory filter box, but everything else stays the same and the filter even sits in the same spot (read: I am not talking about installing the huge snakey kind, just one that sits right where the filter box used to be). And it only costs like $275 for the whole set-up.

Two questions:

1.) Does that rather minor change in any way void my factory warranty? I am reading all over the interwebs that it doesn't, its not hefty-enough work and it doesn't interfere that dramatically with the engine. I'm told even a novice can install one in like, 30 minutes. Is this all true?

2.) Im reading you can expect to gain 3-5 HP and more torque from doing it. That, and it seems to be the consensus that it overall is actually better for your engine; greater access to cooler air is just flat out good for the motor. Is this also true?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
