This is our 7th winter in this home. We've got several large Oaks in our yard and have had big crops of acorns in each of the previous years....this year they're very scarce. Hope this is not a wide spread problem. What are you outdoorsmen seeing ?

I’ve got several large oaks in my backyard. As far as I can tell, the acorn crop this year is as large as normal for here. They’re still dropping but there are plenty covering the ground.

I have two oaks. The one in the front I cut so many limbs off of earlier this year I can't tell.

The one in the back, judging by the number of squirrels my dog has had to defend her home against, about normal.

Acorns everywhere in the places I hunt. Great crop this year. They’re falling all around me right now.

At my place in eastern Noxubee County the acorn crop is pretty thin this year. Red oaks have had almost no acorns. Willow oaks and water oaks have less than average. White oaks around my house here in Columbus have a good crop of acorns this year. Green fields are absolutely beautiful this year so our deer will have plenty to eat.

We have about 15 oaks in our yard and there are acorns galore. Squirrels are having a hay day burying as many as they can.

Interesting you brought this up...

I have two, fifty-year old Live Oak trees in my front yard. The previous two years, the acorns were so numerous that it was a fall hazard to walk up our sidewalk or in the yard. You could blow the sidewalk off and it would be covered a few days later. I was taking the trash to the street this afternoon and noticed how few acorns were on the driveway.

The mast crop is larger than normal in my part of north Ms. my yard is like walking on marbles. Some oaks will skip a year dropping acorns, I don’t know if it’s weather related or if they just produce acorns every other year.

Same thing for me, except I got 4 large red oaks. I had not even noticed that there are very little acorns until this post.

that is a characteristic of red oaks. While they typically have some acorns every year, the acorns for this year are from the blooms of last year. It takes them 2 Years to mature. The lack of red oak acorns in 2020 is the result of 2 nights of hard freezes we had in the spring of 2019. Most oaks produce acorns from the current year blooms but red oaks take 2 years. Natures way of trying to make sure that there are at least some acorns every year.

Water, willow, and southern red oaks appear to be normal crop around here. The white oaks on our property in western Simpson county appeared to drop earlier. What few I found left on the ground on Saturday were already eaten or starting to rot below the layer of leaves.

Most of my oaks are dropping but my sawtooth oaks did not drop an acorn. Pecans were not very plentiful either.
