Next set of Marvel movies were announced tonight. Black Widow and The Eternals the only two coming out in 2020, Shang-Chi, Dr. Strange 2, and Thor 4 (including Natalie Portman as the first female Thor) all coming out in 2021. Also confirmed beyond that Guardians 3, Captain Marvel 2, Fantastic 4, a “Mutants” movie (presumably X-Men), and Blade.

Kind of meh about the next two years. They will be branching out into new territories and resetting the table a bit with some characters that are not very well known. I think they are about 4-5 years too late on a Black Widow movie, don’t know much about The Eternals or Shang-Chi, I do think Dr. Strange and Thor movies have potential if they play their cards right.

Either way, doesn’t look like we are getting a big team up movie for a while, which is fine. Really curious to see how they integrate the X-Men and F4 into things, and Mahershala Ali as Blade is really good casting. Just curious to see where the overall arc of the MCU is headed now that Endgame is behind us.

I was just kind of whatever about it. It will be interesting to see how they bring Portman back into Thor 4. I didn't see the estimated time on Guardian of the Galaxy 3 either. It seems they were pushing the Disney + channel as much as anything. The Eternals might be cool but I don't know enough about them.

I think the Eternals movie will set up the next over arching villain for the MCU in Galactus.

Some of the movies in Phase 4 are kinda meh but I do like the different TV series coming to Disney+.

I'd be curious to see how they handle galactus. Seems like a tough villain to put into a movie.

It’s not guaranteed the next villain will be galactus. Could be Adam Warlock, Annihilus, Dr. Doom...several options.

Dr. Doom will probably be in there, but I doubt he's the next Thanos.

Dr. Doom is one of the most dangerous villains in the MCU. He’s killed Thanos in the comics.

I agree though, from what I read...they want a big bad on earth and a big bad in space. Most fussed I see are Norman Osborne and Annihilus.

I don’t know why they couldn’t have gone Valkyrie as Thor. Natalie Portman’s character is an awful choice, really disappointed.

A female Thor?

So will the next Wonder Woman be a guy?

Your efforts to be a troll don't even have the right comic book universe.

Thor has been a woman in the comics before. This is canon. Calm down hoss.

This is the valid criticism and the direction I thought they'd go in. I like Natalie Portman as an actress a lot, but Thor is a brute force hero and unless they have her in some kind of bulking program for the next two years I have trouble seeing it.

Well excuse the 17 out of me for mixing up my comic books. Now go run along. Your hot pocket just dinged in the microwave.

Yeah, it’s canon and it’s been her character.

I expect there will be a lot of scenes of her without the hammer and CGI will help some when she’s wielding it.

I also expect this to be more comedic.

Portman looked really weird holding the hammer. I would have thought either Sif or Valkyrie would be a lot better selection. I am interested to see how they make it work. They have shown that someone else could wield mjourner when Cap used it but he didn't "turn into Thor".

This "disney+" stuff has me thinking they are about to do whatever they want despite what the fans want and despite any existing storyline and hide it all behind a paywall. Blade and Deadpool both exist outside of sunshine and rainbows, so those will be the most interesting to see if they can maintain.

My take on it is that a lot of fans will check out or just become casual fans. Marvel gambled big when they built the MCU, and it paid off. But honestly, now that Iron Man and Cap are out, my interest level has waned a lot. I will check out Guardians 3 and Thor 4, but you’ve got to think that those franchises are winding down as well. A rebooted Blade interests me. If there’s another Deadpool I’ll watch that. But that’s about it.

I think they are slow playing it because they have seen the Fantastic Four, X-Men and other stuff die in recent years and want to take their time in developing it all.

You say that about Cap and Iron Man but prior to 2009 how many people could tell you who Steve Rogers or Tony Stark are? As long as the storytelling is done right, there are dozens of characters that are very interesting.

Yep. They've proved that with Guardians of the Galaxy.
Absolutely. I will have to add a lot of credit goes to the casting directors too. From Pratt to Cumberbatch, they have done a good job getting people that ooze charisma. That is my concern with Portman, I’ve always liked her as an actress but she’s never hit that sweet spot of likability since being an adult.

I’m gonna add something that weakens my previous point. I really enjoyed the Ant Man movies, and would shell out to see another one. Black Panther was also an objectively good movie, IMO, but I just don’t care much about the character. They reversed the casting of the hero and villain, IMO.

i honestly watch these CBMs for the villains as much as I do for the heroes. As long as they, for the most part, churn out good bad guys, I’ll be watching.

I liked Ant Man because it was very kid friendly. My 4 year old is ate up with super hero stuff, but only watches the crappy cartoons. The Ant Man movies are really the only ones tame enough for him at the moment. And honestly, I do think they are underrated too.

That last FF4 movie was the worst expensive movie I have ever seen. I absolutely love comic book movies and I had to struggle to finish it. Also for everything people have said, the last XMen movie was crap. They probably want a little time to go by so that gets further from peoples minds.

I loved the Ant Man movies. They are just different enough that it adds a different spin. I also love Paul Rudd so anything he is in works 60% of the time, it works every time.

I think we are getting to the saturation point for comic book movies. There is just so much out there now that you don't have time to watch it all. I am still trying to finish the Netflix Marvel stuff. I just finished DD season 3 and I am about halfway through Punisher season 2. I still have the last Jessica Jones season. I was watching Agents of Shield but I haven't picked back up with the new season.

This doesn't even take into account the other graphic novels like Preacher or The Boys coming out on Amazon Prime. The Boys looks awesome and I am looking forward to how they wrap up Preacher. You also have the new Watchmen on HBO coming out this year.

If you watch any other movies or TV then it is hard to squeeze it all in especially if you watch sports.

Based on the Dr Strange title, my bet for the next big "villian" is the Beyonder (Secret Wars).

C’mon man. Don’t jump into the Marvel movie thread and act like Ogre from Alpha Beta.

Also, yes, Natalie Portman is Jane Foster. Jane Foster is the female Thor in the comics. She’s athletic, not bulky (well, depending on the depiction). Think more like... NXT Charlotte Flair.

Valkyrie is a totally different character.
