Have to pay a fine too.
Pretty wild.

Makes one wonder if bowls will survive.
I guess still TV content.

Saw something about this on Thursday. Many schools are hurting with the loss of players, well the Thundering Herd had just about the whole team enter the transfer portal.

Considering this is still all new, a few years in, the damage looks like it will be significant. For one I wonder if we will see an NFL tryout Bowl get canceled, as players practice then go home. These sports are now in Flux, with no guarantees.

I've long thought there are too many bowls, and its become smarter for good players to miss the tofu bowls. Not too many players skipping out on the top bowls

So as it stands now not only do fans get hurt but those great guys at West Point. These unintended consequences suck.

Army can still get in a bowl - going APR route (as RU did once)

"The Independence Bowl is set for Dec. 28, and Dellenger said the original game matched up two American Athletic Conference teams. Army had a previously existing agreement to play before joining the conference this season. Now, the search is on for a replacement, and officials are working through the APR scores of teams with a 5-7 record."

I agree with you on this but players need time to commit and do early entry at the new school. Doesn’t make sense to stay at the old school.

Very good points.

Is that more important than playing in a lower level bowl game?
It seems the entire bowl system may need to be reevaluated.

Certainly glad our new RB isn't playing in a bowl game and risking injury.

Yes they should go, which is why I phrased it as it stands now. Still those guys don't deserve this. Just think of all the future games that could well get screwed up. Rest assure things will deteriorate from here.

Non playoff bowl system is on life support and will be dead soon. There is zero interest in watching games that don't matter with more than half of the players opting out. The stadiums are empty and it is a very unhealthy and unstainable system. Not sure the players care, but they brought this on themselves

Same for coaches. The problem seems most accurate when a coach leaves for a new school. Doesn't seem so if they get fired.
Huff was essentially let go because Marshall let his contract run out and didn’t renew so Southern Miss hired him.

Not sure what the dynamics were as he won the Sun Belt this year.

Hey..can we withdraw from The Rate and play Army instead? Better date and location for us..

Kidding of course (even though I'd jump on this).

So sad. Need to find a team
Army deserves a game. Go Wisky!
This is the system the players wanted

As an independent team, Army had no real bow tie-ins and only a few bowls (like the Armed Forces Bowl) would take Army. One reason to join a conference was to get more and better bowls.

So much for that.

It would be absolutely criminal for 11-1 Army to not get a good bowl game. With a little luck maybe another team will drop out or a 5-7 team will step up and take the opportunity.

The integrity of College Sports needs to be protected. The transfer portal opening now, has collateral damage. So does a coach resigning before end of a team's season/bowl game. The NCAA and Universities need to re-allign the calendar and protect all involved throughout the season
