Florida stands with those that want to pick from the adjacent branch on the family tree. The Florida bill to ban marrying a first cousin failed to pass in the Florida Senate.

For those curious, here are the states that set rules on marrying cousins. Einstein married his first cousin. 1773844780627.png

well ok then, I believe the genetics issue ends at the 2nd cousin level. Assuming that with exceptions it aligns with fertility as in age or infertile.

I doesn't "end" but it's pretty minimal provided you're not already in an at risk population (say, genetics with risk of tay sachs or sickle cell). Knew somebody that everybody believed was dating their second cousin on the down low so I did a deep dive out of curiosity. This is not coming from scientific papers or anything, so take it with a grain of salt (and really, just don't 17 your cousin even if you find scientific papers saying it's ok), but even for first cousins, it's not a major risk as a one off (again, if you are not from an at risk population). It becomes a bigger risk when you have it as a practice and first cousins might have multiple genetic connections from generations before.

Seriously? Your first cousins' younger sister is also your first cousin.
First cousin once removed.

Second cousins are the children of two first cousins. Wait, the first cousins arent the parents of BOTH second cousins...you have two first cousins, each one has a child with their own spouse, and THOSE children are second cousins.

Maybe it would be easier if I drew a diagram...

Anyway, second cousins share one set of great grandparents, so they are like 1/4 related. I vote "No".

Once you start removing cousins, you just have cousin gaps, like first and third but no second, etc

That’s one of the few things I remember from my genetics class at MSU. The professor got off on a tangent one day and I remember him saying that once you got beyond second cousins, you’re really no more related than you are to any random person you’d pass on the street, genetically speaking.

Different rules for first cousin and second cousin doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t see how marrying your first cousin’s younger sister would be different genetically
You want a real conundrum of relatives?

My mother and her family moved here from Oklahoma when they were young. Mom's sister then met what is now my uncle while in school and got married.

then my Aunt (moms sister) and Uncle introduced my mother to my Uncle's cousin.. and eventually my mother and uncle's cousin is now my father.

Aunt and Uncle have two kids girl and boy. I have two brothers. Now if you want your head to hurt... fill in who is what.

First cousin marriage is quite literally why over 50% of the global muslim population is retarded by iq standards. I think we've seen enough evidence on the outcomes of that system.
Exactly. When geneticists want to study genetic diseases they head to the Middle East because they pop up in as little as 1 generation over there. What Ilhan Omar did is considered normal over there. Cousins may be too FAR from the tree.

FDR married his cousin because Elanor didn't have to change her last name. A Roosevelt marrying a Roosevelt.
