So you bought a house without doing any research?

My wife grew up in Westford...next town over. You've got Nashoba valley right there. that's good for kids. Lowell is nearby....it's actually become kind of a cool little city, albeit with some messy parts. UMASS Lowell hockey games are great. Food and drink in Lowell are noticeably cheaper than Boston, too. But obviously Boston isn't very far either.
I did my research. I am looking for the local insider angel.
We were in like 6 different towns that were all very close by. We were there for 48 hours and need to get something. The house is close to the commuter rail, great schools system and seemed like a good community. Could not afford to be closer to Boston due to the crazy housing prices. If we don’t like it we will move in 24-36 months. Not worried. Not planning on the being my forever house. I don’t stay in a house more then 5 years.
Thanks Boston! I’ll be taking the commuter rail right into porter square (32min) and walking from there. It seemed doable commute wise and saved me about 300k on housing.
That’s one of the things I was going to miss here in RTP. Great brewies here in NC.
I think a lot of people do that commute. You'll probably get to know folks on the train. I don't think there is a bar car, however.
If you're working near Porter Square you'll like that area....lot of good stuff to eat there.

Since getting married in 1990, I lost count of how many addresses we have had. We just finished our longest stint in Rumson (12 years, two different houses), and it was easily the worst place we lived other than Anderson Township, a suburb of Cincinnati. While it was not in the plan, we did OK making money selling houses as we moved each time, except for one, in Rumson. But we lucked out, a little over a year after we sold, Sandy put that house under 1 1/2 feet of water.
Just went through the list-- 17 addresses since 1990. I joke to people that I am in a witness protection program. I think we found our final resting place (before keeling over). We should have come back to Wall many years ago.
I live in Wayland which means I am more tied to Framhingham and Natick for commerce. That's too far for you. Use Lowell for your everyday needs.
..that was said prior UMass Lowell hockey is big time. College hockey is fun. Harvard, NE and BU are great places to catch a game as well for little money.
Harvard Football is fun. Eat and drink in Harvard Sq prior and walk to the stadium.
My kids do Ski lessons every Saturday at Wachusett. It's a great family mountain with great night skiing. I love the two bars. This bad weather will pretty much bury this season though. It was thin yesterday and it will be 50 all week.
How old are your kids? If they are young go here in Acton.

Place to eat? How much do you want to spend? Concord is close enough for you and you will find nice restaurants.
You're in Rt 2 so getting to Somerville and Cambridge is easy enough. Both have great food scenes.
Summer? Two options. Go north to Lake Winnipesaukee or South to Cape Cod. I do the Cape.

Kimball's Ice Cream in Westford is probably my favorite ice cream place of all time. Last time there, I hit some golf balls @ the range they had. Nice size scoop -- none of this measuring or weighing it nonsense!
You moved 4 hours away and landed right back in Middlesex County. I hope you landed a sweet tech job up in Billerica. Bring your snow blower. I don't know if I hate drivers from any state worse than Massachusetts.....maybe New Hampshire. I wish you the best up there. Be safe.
Haha, moving 12 hours from Raleigh, NC. It is a sweet tech job but getting closer to wife’s family is a big driver. I am in gene therapy at a small start up in Cambridge.
Kids are 5 and 8. Just signed them up for summer camp where they get to do all sorts of excursions around MA. We drove by that museum looking at houses in Acton. We are right near where 2/495 intersect. So heading into Acton and concord will be easy.

I'm moving to the Boston area at some point this year as well. Appreciate the thread. Will be working by south station. Anxious about the move and hope my wife likes it as she has been in the Midwest her whole life except when visiting my family in New Jersey and other vacations.
You want to look for something on the red line or commuter rails That come into South station.
All I know about Littleton is that I drove through it from Fort Devins back in 1967 to get to Rt 495 north so I could go see my girlfriend in Lawrence. I do remember seeing a building with 'Wang Labs' on it somewhere along Rt 495. They were builders of computer systems back then.
I would agree with you about the drivers except that I now live on Staten Island. So, Massachusetts is now in 2nd place.
We actually have friends that live in Westford. Um .nice place. Typical MA suburbs. Uh....there's a 99 and such. Pretty decent commute to Boston for actual culture.
I lived in Boston for 5 years. I honestly can't imagine not loving it. It's a great city. Try to live on the T as another poster suggested. You don't want to be driving to downtown Boston.
We spoke about Rumson in another thread. If it was so bad, why did you stay for 12 years? Just curious!
If you count duplicates and 2 months in a hotel I've lived in 7 places since Sandy.
I stay in the area because if you're here it must be an "in" place to live.
If you think NC had good breweries, you're in for a treat in Boston / New England area.
I was just about to post the same thing. There are plenty of options for local/regional breweries in Mass/NH/VT/ME. I know NC has come along quite some way in that regard, but New England is a hotbed for brewing on the east coast.

Among several others in Boston alone is Trillium, Harpoon, and Boston Beerworks.
Two of those are not like the third.
Anyone serious about good beer would dare not walk into Boston Beerworks & Harpoon has not been relevant since.. well forever.
There are tons of MA breweries doing great stuff, Trillium & Treehouse being at the forefront. Then there's Nightshift, Exhibit A, Jack's Abby, Mystic, Notch, Honest Weight, River Styx, Widowmaker, etc.
Then there are ones in NH like Deciduous & the Maine breweries like Maine Beer Co, Bissell Brothers, Oxbow, Allagash, Austin Street, etc.
