I don't think Niese showed much coming out of the pen the last week. I like his stuff better than Gilmartin and if they want a lefty out of the pen, then he probably gets the nod over Torres who if healthy might be a better choice regardless.
Agreed. But if you look at Niese's career stats against the Dodger lefty batters he's done quite well. Let's hope we see that Niese in the playoffs.

Uribe is definitely a blow. A healthy Matz in G4 could win this series. Please win on Friday.

I remember Uribe winning a game vs. LA with a walk off shot to the gap off the Dodgers closer Jansen. Just missed being a home run.

Not having Uribe is a major blow.....an aggressive righty bat vs Kershaw and Anderson is critical....Hopefully Matz pitches well tomorrow and can start game 4...

He has been great. Wish the Cubs picked him up, but you can't add everybody down the stretch.

Never in my life did I think I would say this, but going into this series, I wish we had Oliver Perez.

I mean, there are a lot of guys I wish we had more, but since we don't have any of them, I wish we had Ollie.

Damn you Yankees! You were the only junior circuit team I gave a damn about playing against. So I'm supposed to get excited about Texas? Kansas City? NL retread Houston? You suck Yankees. Enjoy your downward spiral into irrelevance.
You didn't think for one second the Yankees were going deep into the playoffs did you?

Considering all of their injuries, I did not think they would go deep. I had hopes for a Subway series. Mets will have a tough road. If they get past the Dodgers, fortunately they will not have to face the Pirates--I believe they were 0-6 against them this year. Cubs are on fire right now.

Gotta love his comment "downward spiral into irrelevance" LOL! That might be the funniest/most ignorant, bred out of pure hatred, spite, and jealousy, comment I've ever heard, regarding The Yankees. Good stuff right there! :cool2:

I knew we were in trouble when he brought in Brandon PInder to face Joey Bats in the first game of the series back when we were still ahead of the Jays. Home Run=loss. Then he brought in the same guy in the third game of the series. Home Run Joey Bats=loss. We got swept, the Jays were in first place, and it was downhill from there. Texeira got hurt and Eovaldi got hurt as the Jays just kept winning and winning. When the Jays got Tulowitzki and Price at the trading deadline and we got Dustin Friggin Ackley....THEY became the best team in the division. It was clear that the Yanks were not going to go outside the organization to improve any of their weak spots....like right-handed hitting and bullpen help. That led to a succession of minor leaguers in the pen like Pinder. Mitchell, and the wrongly named Goody It didn't help that Ellsbury and Gardner and McCann stopped hitting. Or that our second baseman was hitting less than the Mendoza Line. Or than Girardi wouldn't have a .190 hitter batting ninth sacrificing a runner over from first with no outs in a close game. Or that Girardi would "rest" too many players too many days. Ernie Banks would have hated playing for this guy. I wish the Cubs would have taken Joe off of our hands.
Anyway, at least we made the playoffs. I knew we were in trouble vs. that bearded guy. . Their #1 was way better than our #1. That's the chance you take when you don't win your division. But then who besides me thought the Yanks would be even in it for the division title this season ?
Hopefully, the Yanks leadership decides to focus more on winning than the size of their payroll this off-season and we can get Price or Greinke or Cueto and a right-hand bat for left field. And maybe say goodbye to the Steven Drews, Brendan Ryans, and Chris Capuanos of MLB. George wouldn't have put up with this crap.

Do you mean when he signed the Andy Hawkins, Dave LaPoints, AJ Burnetts and Carl Pavanos of MLB? Free agency isn't an exact science. I think the Yanks are finally doing a good job bringing the homegrown talent back again.

Agree wholeheartedly. I know very few Yankee fans who are upset about NOT giving up all this young talent we've got right now (up and coming up...).

Most successful teams right now are achieving this with homegrown talent. Yes, you use trades and free agents to plug the gaps that occur, but the majority of the force behind it is homegrown. The Mets are mostly homegrown guys or guys that they got through trades but spent time in the farm system, most of these teams are similar. The Yankees are wisely following the same model now, but it takes some transition time to get there. As a Mets fan, I would have loved a Subway Series, but I'm just happy to be along for the ride this year.

Do you think Toronto fans care whether Donaldson is homegrown or not ?
If we had gotten Price and Tulowitzki and Toronto had gotten Ackley....we'd be the ones playing Texas right now. I wouldn't trade Severino. But Bird doesn't have a position to play. And the rest of "all this young talent" hasn't proven anything yet. Some of it should have been traded for bullpen help and/or another righty bat.... IF we wanted to win this year. I think the Yanks management made a decision NOT to hold onto "all this young talent".... but to hold off on spending more money. George wouldn't have done that.

Bird will be our 1st baseman half of next season then take over. WTF are you talking about? No, none of it should have been trading, we weren't winning the WS this year, I love that we held onto the youth movement for once and, guess what, GEORGE DID DO IT, or have you forgotten? Do I need to remind you that the "core four" were all drafted by, or signed as amateurs under, George? Com'on KBee!

I'm not suggesting that the Yanks should have traded every prospect in their minor league system in an effort to shore up their weak spots. I'm suggesting that the Yanks could have used MONEY and some minor league prospects to strengthen their team. Were you against trading Montero 'cause he was homegrown and Pineda wasn't ? Or how about Roberto Kelly for Paul O'Neill ?
They could have...at the least...gone out and gotten a competent second baseman for a modest price. And a reliever to shore up the bullpen. Instead we got Steven Drew and an endless parade of overmatched minor league pitchers....and of course Chris Capuano. And I don't think that was because they wanted to maintain some youth movement. I think it was because they didn't wanna spend more money.
I think it's because the sons don't wanna win as badly as daddy did....not because of some change in strategy in regards to their farm system.

I expect DeGrom to keep it close in a game 1 loss and Syndergaard to get hammered tomorrow night. Harvey wins game 3 and my Metsies go down in 4.

I will then blame Terry for not keeping the team sharp and playing the likes of Campbell, Young, etc. as we squandered the home field against the dregs of the league.

Let's go Mets - prove me wrong!

Conforto definatley couldn't have had a worse at bat than Cuddyer and he would've caught that ball
Cuddyer is done. Bad knee prevents him from being a solid defender or consistent offensive threat. I'll take my chances with Conforto. He's turned out to be a solid defender and a very good hitter consider his youth.

In little league, the crappiest player always played left field. I guess the Mets are using the same strategy tonight.

We usually had the weakest ones in right field at the younger ages. The good hitters usually are pulling the ball to left.

DeGrom = beast. I should go to bed, but this game is incredibly watchable.
