I really think they'd have to sweep all three to edge out LA who I expect to sweep San Diego.
RU Jersey - Agree......and Collins - who admittedly I am no fan of - basically sacrificed the last game of the Phillies series with that hideous AAAA lineup - as well as putting Parnell in during a tight moment of the 2nd game.....We'll lose home field by 1 game to LA - and possibly the NLDS as a result - because of the babbling buffoon we have as a manager..
I understand what you are saying, but the playoffs don't start for Mets until Friday. That's plenty of time to recover. Put it this way, if the Mets had taken care of business against the Phillies this is a non-issue going into the Washington series.
I agree we need to take all of them this weekend to avoid starting in LA. Greinke tonight for the Dodgers.
Home field clearly is not a priority. If it were Syndergaard would have started on Thursday. I suspect this is coming from Alderson, not Collins.
Team seems to be gearing up for the postseason. Really haven't been playing well at home for a while now. Saw where they actually now have a home record under .500 since the All star break. With all of that talk about the schedule down the stretch they really haven't fared that well against it other than the series vs the Reds where they clinched.
Scherzer pitches a gem....history for sure......but Collins is the epitomy of a manager who cannot motivate and/or manage his team into the playoffs.....
After watching the no -hitter (and I had tickets and happily elected not to go):
- It's probably for the best - psyche wise - that they start on the road
- Either the no hitter gets them motivated for Friday or it's going to be 2 very difficult nights with Kershaw and Greinke on the mound in games 1 and 2.

Hi Shields....so many things to be annoyed at.....including big time putting Parnell in a critical situation wed. night; inserting a minor league lineup for 2 of the past 3 games...the list goes on and on with Collins.......

Thanks for the good season, but my expectations heading into the playoffs have been greatly lowered. Thinking it will be a short stay.
Clearly, the front office has decided that home field is not a priority. I think this is more Alderson than Collins. To the example given, clearly it was Collins who chose to insert Parnell to replace Robles. But I think Alderson gave the edict that the key relievers were not to be used for more than one inning. That is why you did not see Reed or Clippard in that situation.
WHY? Because the hitters have gone cold? They can heat up just as suddenly as they cooled. One could as easily be optimistic because Thor and Dark Knight are pitching well.
Worm / Nut - I agree with you both..........I just would have preferred more emphasis on winning home field.......I'll say this - If The Mets split in LA - we're gonna win the series...if we get swept - we're done in 3.......
I just can't wait until they start trying to win ballgames again. Frustrating as hell to watch Collins and his Little League everybody plays lineups. Just why exactly these professional ballplayers need to rest when they're not playing any games from tomorrow until Friday is beyond me. Let's hope they can find their bats during the hiatus.
the bats were colder than the weather. maybe they will warm up in LA but if they thought Scherzer was tough, Grienke and Kershaw have been consistently better all year. Now today if Collins wants to play the second unit that is fine with me since the game is truly meaningless. Problem is they started doing this right after clinching the division.
Bryce Harper loses the NL batting title. Nats lose. I hope he loses the MVP. On to Los Angeles.

- I don't like Tejada at SS in the playoffs.....it's going to be tough enough to score off Kershaw and Grienke and Tejada is an automatic out against them...would much prefer to see Flores in there.
- Health of Matz and Uribe is critical as well as both are needed big time.

Lately, the Mets play better on the road than at home, so in a sense I think this is better for them.
The offense definitely needs to come alive, hopefully Granderson's HR is a sign of things waking up.
The same way Kershaw is on a mission, Wright, Murph and Granderson seem to be on a mission, maybe more so as Wright's spinal stenosis will probably prevent too many more goes at this for him.
I'm mixed on Tejada as he's stronger defensively and in September his bat got hot. However, Flores adds an intangible spark and sometimes makes some unreal plays.
Matz, I think will be fine, but as I've thought for a while now has the lowest ceiling of the members of Generation MPH. Syndergaard has the highest ceiling. Uribe, I wouldn't expect to see in the Division Series unfortunately. If the Mets advance perhaps we'll see him during the NLCS. Uribe is a bigger part of the puzzle than many realized.
Frankly, these guys seem to have ice water in their veins. I don't think much rattles them.
If their going to split they have to find a way to scratch out a run or two vs one of LA's top two starters and hope that they get as good a performance from Degrom/Syndegaard. I'd rather see Harvey going out West and Noah at home because I think at this point in their careers Harvey is more poised and Noah has more or less been lights out at home. As for Tejada I don't think him being an automatic out would make him any different than the other guys in the lineup if Greinke and Kershaw are dealing. Agree with everything else.

I don't think Niese showed much coming out of the pen the last week. I like his stuff better than Gilmartin and if they want a lefty out of the pen, then he probably gets the nod over Torres who if healthy might be a better choice regardless.
Matz had the best numbers of the group when pitching at Las Vegas. 2.19 ERA. Last year, Syndergaard put up a 4.60 at Vegas. If Matz can stay healthy (and this year already shows that could become a problem), he's got an extremely high ceiling. Being a lefty can't hurt.
Hey I saw the wackiest sight driving to work this morning. A collection of ultra-luxury cars on the side of the road. One had an "Old Grand Dad Whiskey" bumper sticker and a "CC" license plate. I looked up and realized it was the NY Yanks... They were at a golf driving range getting an early start on the off season. Funny thing they were only making contact on 1-2 out of 10 tee-shots (swing and a miss).
Nice to see them put that bloated payroll to good use (cars, booze, and golf).
