Fish 4-1. Max getting tired ? Max heading towards career high in innings. Hopefully the Nats have worn him down. No injury just a dead arm the remainder of the year.

The parakeet is this year's black cat.

If I'm the Nats I'm thinking 69 Cubs.

Was at the first two Phillies game. Pretty much a home game.

Un-fking-believable. I understand Logan Verritt pitched great at Coors Field, but why do you take out Harvey after six innings and 103 pitches?? Why do you replace Harvey with a RIGHTY when Boston has L, L, R, S, L coming up??

Has a first place team ever fired their manager in late August? Is Terry Collins trying to be the first ever?? As much fun as the Phillies sweep was, I don't think any team likes staging comebacks every night.

Harvey pitched great. I would have let him pitch 1 more with the xtra rest. Stopped @ Citi on the way back from LI for the game. LGM!!! Bottom 8th Sandoval just got tossed.

Tough crowd! I assume you know Verrett put up eight zeroes on Sunday. I further assume you were not complaining then. So he got rocked tonight. It happens to
everyone. Want to be pissed off at someone, be pissed off at Mejia.
Why is Logan Verrett on the roster?? He's friggin' terrible.

F'ing Torres back to form. Nice play Lagares. Edit- the replay showed that hit was a home run as it was over the orange line. Probably why Lagares did not chase after it. But still, don't you play the ball until the umpires call it a home run?

Should have walked Bogartes. Rather pitch to the rookie than Xavier and he gave them 3 run lead.

Collins is not a premier manager and tonights' loss is 100% on him.

- Why does he take Harvey out? Harvey had another 10 pitches or so left in him. Clippard could them go 1 1/3 or 1 2/3.
- Should have PH for Tejada in 7th with bases loaded
- Why does Lagares play? He sucks at both ends
- Why did he keep Torres in? Take him out when it was 4-3 and he was getting blasted.....
- Why did Murphy not start tonight. He's only hot as hell.....

Guys relax! Can't win em all. Nationals lost too, so no ground lost. I wouldn't say Verrett or Torres are terrible, bullpen arms, unless they're named Mariano Rivera are always inconsistent, you should know that.

Verrett just pitched an awesome game in Colorado, when everyone else on the starting staff got rocked. Torres just saved the mets bacon yesterday with like 3 solid innings and has thrown like 230+ innings the past 2 seasons. As well as being part of that ridiculously awesome play haha. They'll get em tomorrow with Harvey and Sunday with syndergaard on the hill

1) I will NEVER second guess a manager for taking a pitcher out too soon, because I don't know how much gas is left in the tank. That is true of any pitcher. Then when you add the Harvey innings limit issue, it makes the decision to pull him even easier. Keep in mind that historically, Harvey's effectiveness has dropped once he hits the 100 pitch mark.

2) Tough call on pinch hitting Tejada in the 7th. By doing so, you weaken your defense at two positions. Too early? You wouldn't hit for him in the 5th. You would in the 9th. I could go either way on this one.

3) Lagares now plays against lefties only and has recently flourished in that role. He earned a Gold Glove just last year. That said, his defense has taken a troubling and inexplicable downturn.

4) Take Torres out at 4-3, and bring in O'Flaherty and his 15 or whatever ERA? I'll take my chances with Torres. In that situation I think you need to save Gilmartin in case the game goes longer.

5) Agree on this one. I'd have started Murphy, and played Cuddyer in the outfield instead of Granderson, who has not hit lefties well.

Murphy has been scorching hot, but his numbers vs lefties are very poor.

I've done the NJT->NYC->LIRR many times. Works very well. Just have to fight the crowds to the trains going home.

They've lost so many pitchers this year it is really amazing that they have what they have. Robles and Torres are so hot & cold. Seems as though they never have two good outings in a row. O'Flaherty is gasoline on a fire.

Some of you guys truly sound like RU fans on football game days. So and so sucks. Insert name here is the worst player in the league. Well as much as I would have loved to have won last night's game and grown the lead to 7.5 games, I'm not going to forget the shot in the arm that Vertett provided on that 9-1 road trip. Nor the 2 home run game that Lagares had. Or the key innings that Torres pitched just the night before until the offense kicked back in with him actually being the one one who lit the fuse there also with his leadoff hit. And I'm certainly not forgetting the fact that while Boston was relaxing in New York on an off day, the Mets were playing a 14 inning game the night before and were forced to play overtime once again. Have rarely seen so much whining over a single loss by a team that has done yeoman work over the last month to place themselves in the position they're now in. Not to mention that just by virtue of the fact that Washington also lost to the lowly Marlins with their suddenly failing ace pitching in a home game; the Mets shaved another number off the magic one.

Other than 2 nights ago, Torres has been mostly trouble. And you can't defend O'Flaherty. I have no problem with Lagares.

Wondering why they could not push Familia for 2 more outs last night?

On the decision not to start Murphy, Collins said that they are in a stretch of 13 games in a row, and he simply chose to rest him against the lefthander. Keep in mind that right now, Murphy and Cespedes are the only ones who are being used day in and day out. (Also D'Arnaud of course, but catchers routinely get 1-2 days off per week.)

Collins, like many managers, prefers to give a player who is being rested the full day off, and not use that player as a pinch-hitter unless necessary. If Collins was on the fence about using Murphy as a PH in the 7th, that may have been a factor in his decision.

Don't mistake my comment as "ripping the guy" etc, but if Wright gets a base hit in the 9th with Cespedes on 1st, we're likely not having this conversation. Instead, he hits into a DP. Can't win them all, but with the way things have been going for the Mets this past month, I was essentially expecting to see Wright with a walkoff there.
