Matz looks like the real deal, but Frank, c'mon: Thor is #24 in all of MLB starting pitchers in ERA! What more can you expect from a rookie? He was dominant in May and July, not so much in June and August. So he's due for a strong September!

Not a ground ball. A scorched one-hopper that just so happened to be right at somebody. And then the team's defensive play of the year followed by the game winner.
Everybody is contributing. Who would have though that Torres would not only provide major shutdown innnings but also start the game wining rally?
A word of caution. The strength of this team remains, and must be, the starting pitching. And it, for the most part, hasn't been good over the last week. I know we can point to individual reasons. But it still hasn't been good. With young pitchers, there is always a concern that they won't maintain strong pitching performances for an entire year as their innings get stretched. It has to get better, get back to what it was.
This hitting will not continue this way. The Mets hitting is no doubt improved. But it's baseball, and we know that hot hitters don't stay hot forever. It'll cool down. And when that happens, a team that seemed resilient or unwilling to quit can seem not to have the "fight" everyone saw in it earlier. For the most part, these are the same players and hitters who didn't seem to have so much fight earlier in the year. The difference is the hitting.

I'm going tomorrow afternoon. I've been to a Yankees, Cubs, and Giants game but this is inexplicably my first game at Citi field this year. Can't wait!
I'm heading Sunday. It's my 6th a Citi Field this year. I love the stadium (hate the commute)!
Getting to CitiField is the worst. I love going to Citizen's in Philly like I did this week. It seems like half the stadium is filled with Mets fans.
Incredibly stupid. And Williams made the decision, too - he defended it after the game.
Considering driving to Citi but is there going to be excessive traffic due to US Open activities tomorrow?
Curious if anyone from suburban NJ have taken NJT to Penn and connect to LIRR out to the stadium, and how well or poorly that works.
I'm a die hard Phillies fan so it's tough for me to say this...I like the way the Mets are doing things. Outside of upper management, they're building things the right way. Great home grown pitching depth and the Cespedes move was a no brainer. The post season should certainly be interesting.
Should work fine. The train back could get a little tight but you always have the option to hop on the 7 train (which will also be tight, but I'm guessing will run much more frequently.
You'll get off at Times Sq and walk the few blocks to Penn. I would recommend that if you think this is anywhere near an option, make sure to buy a Metrocard before you leave Penn so you're not trying to use the machines at the stadium.
I've done it. It isn't difficult, it just takes time. Especially on weekends when seemingly every train is a local. At NY Penn you get on a Port Washington branch train, its 20 minutes from Penn if everything goes right.
It's easy & relatively hassle-free. Take a midtown direct train to Penn Station. The NJT tracks are 1-13, the LIRR tracks are 14-21. Hop on a Port Washington-bound train & you'll be there in 15-20 minutes (then a 5-minute walk into the stadium).
You can also park in Secaucus & hop on a train to Penn Station from there. I'd only recommend the 7 train to an NYC or Connecticut resident.
I have done it, most recently on the Friday night game on 7/31 that started the current run. Even with extra innings it was no problem catching a train back to Penn Station. Great way to get to the game from northern NJ.
I usually drive to Secaucus and take the train from there. Though I live on a train line I find that on the return, once you hit Penn station, you can take any train to Secaucus and then drive from there, Usually works out quicker.
Never really felt like it was too bad. For a weeknight game driving isn't great most of the time, but the LIRR or 7 train work just fine.
There's a few subway options that make sense. When you get off the train at Penn Station take a 1, 2 or 3 train to Times Square and get on the 7 express (on a weeknight, on the weekend don't do this) straight to Mets-Willets Point. OR Take the E train to Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Ave and switch to the 7 train there to Mets-Willets Point (works well anytime). On the weekends the 7 express runs back towards Manhattan after games and I'd recommend that if you can get one and get on the 1, 2 or 3 for a stop to Penn. The LIRR usually runs only every 30 minutes after a game, but the transfer is generally easier since its a direct, one-seat ride.
if you are coming into Penn Station then walk across to the LIRR. It is about $10 extra roundtrip v. the subway but is much faster and is more reliable if you are trying to synch up with a specific NJT train to go home on.
Heard a cool stat on last night's broadcast. On this road trip, three times (in four days!) the Met starting pitcher gave up at least seven runs, yet the team won the game. Prior to that, it had happened five times in 14 years.
This. Never had an issue connecting to/from Shea/Citi via NJT and LIRR. Trains are cleaner. It was worth the extra cost vs. the subway. Connections all made in NY Penn station and no need to go up into the street.
This is the only way I go from Penn Station now, and have for a few years. It's fast an easy. It's like 3 stops to the stadium and much faster than the 7 train. The walks a little longer from the station to the stadium than the 7 train, but not much at all. LIRR expects and accomodates met game traffic. This is the way to go.
