Sounds like the ole, "but I have black friends" thing that upsets people.
His statements stand on their own. If someone not of his background said similar things they would be eliminated from the spotlight and shunned.
He is a sexist. Saw him deliberately ignore Christine Leahy when he appeared on the Cowherd show--turned his back on her and wouldn't answer a legitimate question or even acknowledge her presence. Guess he thinks like Stokely Carmichael, who was once asked what position women have in the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and responded "Prone".
The posters that feel he is racist attribute it to his comments that UCLA would have won more if they didn't have so many slow white boys. Dumb attention-seeking comment, but certainly not evidence of racism. There are physical reasons that enable black athletes, with 1/8 the population, to dominate college and NBA hoops. Mr Ball is not entirely wrong.

He's a genius, the only reason there's a thread about him on a Rutgers basketball board. He's used the system to boost his profile, and become a household name in a few months. He's gonna have all the rich white kids buying his shoes, while cutting out the middle man. As long as his kids can play, his brand will be relevant, and he's got a major cash flow, rather than getting a percentage from Nike or Adidas

If memory serves, Jimmy the Greek said blacks were better athletes because of selective breeding in the era of slavery, and that the only role left for whites was coaching. And now, black coaches were starting to make inroads. That got him fired.
There are physical differences between whites and blacks--better twitch muscles, etc. And some 30 years ago, a black gal in the office commented to me about another black gal's butt and said that on the whole, black women had larger butts.
She used a scientific term I can't remember, and said it made child bearing easier, so the trait was passed on.
The problem comes when people start saying that these physical differences suggest there are mental differences, which is completely bogus. Just like people used to say Jim McMillan (look him up) played white and Pete Maravich played black. Saw UCLA many times on TV, especially when wacky Bill Walton was doing the games. Lavar was thinking of TJ Leaf and Bryce Alford, neither of whom featured speed as one of their assets. And a few subs. Of course, Lavar conveniently forgot the other skills like scoring, passing and rebounding those two collectively brought to the table.
