Fermented Cabbage...if made right can be extremely beneficial to your gut biome.

Fermented cabbage buried in the ground. One of my best friends in high school was Korean, and that's how his mom did it. Pretty disgusting, though. Kind of like a cold, sweet version of sour kraut. I never acquired a taste for it. Korean barbecue, however, yeah baby.

I've had it several times in the past but as I've grown older and acquired a new respect for the benefits in certain foods, interested in giving it a shot. Interesting take on burying it...not certain itd work so well this time of year! Ha!

Anyone know of where to buy some quality KimChi in Omaha?
HyVee on 108th and Fort has some decent kimchi on the north side of the fresh produce section. Kimchi tastes like sauerkraut mixed with siracha imo and I love both of those things!

Any asian market carries it. You can also usually get it from any korean rest. around. Hy-vee has it. I think even wal-mart has it.

It's OK. Gets old after a while and kinda smells.

Now, Korean bbq is a totally different thing. Meat!!!!!

Purchased Mother In Laws KimChi at Whole Foods and it's pretty decent, the key is the cabbage still has a decent crunch to it. Definitely gives your taste buds a new experience! I dig it!

many different varieties of Kimchi go to a couple of korean restaurants and sample the different types. and when ya go to a korean place order the Bibimbap in a sizzling hot stone bowl.

Don’t forget the bulgogi! Dolsot Bibimbap (dolsot is the hot stone pot) with bolgogi and that Korean ketchup (idk the name) all mixed together is glorious.

When in Korea ( I was in fightinfinace in office) we would not let clerks bring in for lunch. It smelled so bad almost sickening. They ate for breakfast and stunk up the place all day. I don't know what American Kimchee smells like but you couldn't eat the real thing from Korea.

Maybe the clerks mixed in some fermented dog - hence the strong smell???

When I was at KSU I had a roomie from The Big Red One out at Ft. Riley who had previously been stationed in Korea where he'd married a Korean woman. They were broken up by the time we became roommates but apparently she was still supplying him with Kimchi, which he absolutely loved.

He always had a jar of that in the fridge, home made I assume as they had no label, and would break it out all the time to slather it on anything and everything. He was always trying to get me to try it but just the smell alone is something I'll never get over. Of course, that was back in the 70s and my culinary experiences since then have taught me that sometimes smelly food is actually very good so I generally try about anything now, but that philosophy just bit me on the behind on Christmas when I tried an imported European Brie (I've had Brie dozens of times before and always loved the stuff as well as Camembert and other cheeses that smell like feet or worse)-- and had to use Purell to get the smell off my hands. If they only made Purell for the brain I'd be good, but that one's right up there with the Kimchi now.
