I know we've got a lot of Turfgrass folks in here. My yard is covered with Nostoc. It has spread like wildfire. We keep getting rain and it runs a little more.

I've read that I need to spray with a moss and algae killer. What is the best to use? It won't be any spot treatment. May need to spray the entire back and side yards.

Take a soil test to see where you stand nutrient wise. Might have high rates of P in your soil. Improve the drainage in this area of your yard. Apply a chlorothalonil based fungicide once a week until it goes away. Maybe try spraying a low rate of clorox in a small (Test Area) in the corner of the yard to see what happens....this should be done once a week for a few weeks. You can get ride of the Nostoc with fungicides/chemicals but until you correct your drainage issues you'll be spraying your yard often.

It should improve on its own as we get drier weather. It’s been so soggy lately that it has perfect conditions to thrive. I have some in my yard every spring in spots and as soon as it hits April and the days get warmer and get some drier weather it goes away.

Also consider aerating your yard.
