I don't think we will ever be the Yankees of old with Joey G. as manager.
Tankaka is ahead 2 - 0 in the 7th, gives up to hits, Giradi has two pitchers
with 0 ERA's waiting to come in. So he keeps Tanaka in having thrown more
pitches than all year. Now it's 2-2. I swear he drives me nuts. He is first
in MLB in pulling starters. Oops it's now 4-2. Boston.

Think Comcast is doing Yankees fans a favor this year by not showing that slop this year...

Yanks started last season 7-13. Made the playoffs. 8-12 going into the night despite the "slop" on the field, so far, so let's see what he can do this year. Last year's coaching job, IMHO, was above average as most had The Yanks finishing last in the division.

Watch the Mets. They put a 12 spot on the Giants in the 3rd inning. Yoenis grand slam.

Can't put lipstick on a pig. Their lineup is gawd awful so they will only go so far as their starting pitching takes them.

If you call that 1 game snoozer the playoffs, I guess so.

Team is boring since Derek retired.

Yanks were good in the 90s........ Its a Mets town now

On the field so far this season, but not at the gate.

Also, in NJ, the Yanks will always be vastly more popular than the Flushings.

Yanks have been better than them on the field in every season but one in nearly 3 decades.

Mets are the much better team, but u r right, until the Mets reach a run of success, NY will always be a Yankee town. They're just too popular because of their success in the 90s.

They stay on this downturn, and Mets stay successful for 5 or 10 years, you'll start to see a shift. Not because of 1 season.

The Yankees may have more fans but what a boring lot they are. As boring as their no beard policy. Bryce Harper has his hat that reads, "make baseball fun again" The Yankees of the 70s were fun. The teams in the 80s weren't great but they were fun. With all the success they have had since it is amazing how little fun was accomplished.

I would have been better off missing last night's game. But as someone here already said....it's April. I don't get too excited about baseball in April. No one gets a trophy for winning April.
BTW, also not a Girardi fan. I wonder how much of his lineup he'll be "resting" tonight vs. the Bosux ? Ernie Banks could not have played for this guy.

Agree regarding April however it does lay the groundwork for the rest of the season. For example easier for the Mets to play 500 ball the rest of the year and make the playoffs then it does the Yanks. With that said you can always have amazing playoff runs late in the season. Makes baseball exciting.

I lost touch with Baseball and the yankees around 2010...how have they become so mediocre? Did they stop spending?

Yeah. They were the only team in MLB to not sign a free agent this past offseason.
George must be very disappointed in his sons.

HUH? Those championship teams were all a blast I'm not sure what you're talking about. Just because they weren't brawling in the dugout doesn't mean they weren't "fun." O'Neill throwing water coolers? Jeter playing pranks on everyone in the dugout and locker room over the years (ask Aditi...)? Jetes, Bernie, and Jorge, constantly screwing with Mo? Burnett with the pies? Boggs riding the police horse? David Wells? Don Zimmer charging Pedro on the mound? Should I continue?

As a looooooooooooong time Yankee fan, I'm hoping the idiot Steinbrenner brothers will realize that Retardi and Cashman are and have been so overrated. They both need to be gone. Retardi is barely an average manager with NO CREATIVE INSTINCTS. And Cashman did NOTHING to help this moribund offense. Last night was reminiscent of the entire year. They can't score runs. Retardi doesn't know when to bring in a reliever and Betances gets beat with his third pitch against Big Sloppy. This is going to be a bad year.

The Yanks will get Bryce Harper. The Steinbrenner Sons do not eat bad contracts like George S did, so it will take a little longer to rebuild.

A perfect fit for their arrogant fanbase (not all of them, but the mouthy ones).

Yeah, Cashman took over a world champion team, and the strong young core,
got him through some good years, but it doesn't look like he has done much,
for years, and this includes keeping around (as you say) Retardi. I've been watching
Yankees since Mantle's rookie year, and have disliked very few Yankees. Of my
least favorite J.G. is right up there with my top 3 or 4. Hasn't got a clue about
running a team especially pitching. The batting line ups are crazy you put up
three very fast players with good batting avg then bat a 120 hitter in clean up,
then a good 4th and 5th then a player with a 65 batting average. A pitcher strikes
out 3 batters in a row and he has to take him out so he is strong in Oct. Like I said he drives me nuts.

The wild card game is a play in game. As a Yankees fan I don't consider making the wild card play on game making the playoffs.

I couldn't have said it better. Girardi has NO INSTINCTS whatsoever. He's binder boy. He has fast guys in Ellsbury and Gardner, but does he run them or use hit and run? No. The moron plays station to station baseball like he's Earl Weaver. When Girardi first came over from the Marlins, I liked the idea, because as Marlins manager, he bunted; he hit and ran; and they stole bases. As Yankee manager (this is his 9th year) he has won one championship, has not gotten them to the playoffs 3 times (this year could be 4) and they have bowed out early in the playoffs or got swept in the ALCS by the Tigers. The man is highly strung and defensive and is too damn stubborn for his own good. Stealing bases and bunting NEVER goes into slumps, but yet moron-man continues to put the same lineup out there while the team is nearly last in every offensive category. Or, if someone is hot, he'll rest them the next day and screw up their timing. and Cashman is no better. What the EFF has he done with the money he's able to spend? I miss Gene Michael and Bob Watson. They had more talent and imagination in their pinkie than Cashman has in all of the years he's been GM. I'm hoping this year is such a disaster that both idiots get canned.

The "Yankee town" thing is a relatively recent phenomenon due to the 90s-00s run by the Yankees coupled with the Mets mostly stinking. That's when the Yankees drew 4 million. Before that, however, NY was -and likely will be again- a national league town. I believe the Mets were the first NY baseball team to draw 1 million, 2 million and 3 million.
