Great British actor. He was the Elephant Man, in Harry Potter, Caligula in I Claudius. I'll always remember the famous scene in Alien when the monster popped out of his chest.

Watched the Elephant Man 100 times when I was a kid and PRISM was the HBO of the age. Great actor... RIP

Great actor. If you have never seen the British mini series I,Claudius you're missing something. It's a play, not a movie. A great cast (Hurt, Derek Jacobi, Brian Blessed, Patrick Stewart) tells the story of the first four Emperors of Rome Through the recollections of the fourth emperor :the club footed, stuttering Claudius. One of the best things I've ever seen on TV.

He was also great in "Midnight Express" and "Scandal", about the Profumo affair, the 1963 British sex scandal.

Very sorry to hear of this. John Hurt was just a great, great actor. Can't think of anything I ever saw him in that I didn't enjoy.
