I still think that school principal scene in Uncle Buck was about as good at it gets.
He was GREAT! Better actor than most would give him credit for. Demonstrated his acting chops in Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Miss him and his movies.
No one ever said a bad word about John Candy.
Only the Lonely...very underrated movie with him as the romantic lead. Worth a viewing if you haven't seen it.
Thank you for posting this. He was one of my favorite comedic actors. His early stuff on SCTV was classic.
With all of the great things he did that people have mentioned already, his time on SCTV needs to be noted. Johnny LaRue, the Fishin Musician, etc.

I umpire baseball and softball, in the Chicagoland area, HS in Spring and club ball on the Summer, my all time favorite softball team out here is the “Orange Whips”. Named for John Candy line in Blues Brothers, I laugh every time I see their uniforms.
My buddies and I always, and I mean always, used that line in our long ago bar carousing days. Even though we're old fogeys now, whenever we do get out together a few times a year the first order is still Orange Whips. Of course the younger gen bartenders/servers usually don't get the joke lol.

My wife grew up in the environment portrayed in the movie, only in Boston instead of Chicago. She really liked the movie and thought it nailed the lifestyle and attitudes.
Me and a friend always use this line at games if one of us is going up to the concourse.

Very true - the only SCTV in that first clip was the Schmenge Brothers. Where's Johnny LaRue? So many others
