I'm looking for any input for internet service. I currently have service through AT&T. However, I am about to drop our home phone. Since my internet and phone is bundled together I thought this would be a great time to go with another internet service if there is a better one available.
Any info will be appreciated.
I'll hang up and listen now.

I have bundled Comcast X1...

Unless you can get Fiber through Cspire or Verizon, I would say that Comcast is the fastest and best deal around.
I plan on switching to Cspire when it is available in my neighborhood.. $150 per month for fiber, cable and phone.

U-Verse is also available in parts of Madison (maybe all). It's in my neighborhood now and it looks like it will be cheaper than Comcast. I just haven't pulled the trigger because I know I get good service with Comcast, it's a pain in the *** to change when I just think I would get good service from U-Verse, and I really don't care too much about the cost.

I don't think U-Verse's internet is as good as Comcast. And Comcast X1 is just as good as Uverse TV. It all depends on price from that point.

I just dropped my ATT home phone and switched to U-Verse internet

about a month ago. So far so good. Very happy with the speed. Price is right too.

Ah, U-Verse

It's everywhere but on my street. I have cable, but they have no competition, so I'm sort of stuck.

My cousin has U-Verse 7 miles out of nowhere.
About three years ago the Feds. set up a grant to put The Internet out into the boonies/everywhere.
So when you go out into the rural areas, and see these Orange top post lining the roads, It's the Internet.

I strongly recommend UVerse over Comcast.

Back when I had Comcast, something was going out every month or 2, and I constantly had to call customer service and get someone out to fix it, which would be a couple days. When I traded houses with my mother-in-law, Comcast's devices just couldn't handle it. They would somehow keep switching their addresses and stop working, no matter how many times customer service supposedly changed our addresses on their system. Finally, enough was enough and I switched to Uverse, about 2 years ago. Since then, I've only had 2 issues, and both were fixed within 24 hours.

When you call them DO NOT let them talk you into the ******** bundle deal. It sounds wonderful until you start adding all of the gadgets and extras and then the first bill comes and you go "DAMN, that's a lot more than we talked about, WTF? So you get on the phone w/ customer service agent Harry Patel in Bombay and try to explain and he hands you off to his supervisor (and cousin) Barry Patel and he can't fix it then you get an adjusted bill the next month and its more than the first one, get the picture (no pun intended)? I got rid of their cable in January (kept their internet) and am living large w/ an antenna in the attic for all the over the air free networks, I've got Netflix, Sling and Tablo to record with and loving not sending them that $110+ a month I was before. Total $63/mo including the internet....

Comcast customer service sucks. Big time.

But their X1 platform is worth putting up with it. Just my opinion.

I have Comcast broadband + cable in Madison (we don't have landlines, cut that cord 10 years ago). U-verse is available in half of my neighborhood, but not the half I'm in.

Comcast's broadband internet is pretty good. About 2 years ago it hit a rough patch for 3-4 months where it was going out a lot, but whatever it was they fixed it, and that's the only problem I've had w/ it in 6 years here.

The (ludicrously well-documented) problem w/ Comcast is customer service. It is abysmal. Last summer I bought my own cable modem so I didn't have to pay them $8/month to rent a 1987 Motorola modem from them anymore; opened my bill last week (I usu throw them away, since it's drafted out of my account), and there was a now-$10 charge for modem rental. They had never quit charging me for it, and on Jan. 1 had upped it from $8 to $10/month. Called and had to raise 10 kinds of hell w/ a dude I could barely understand to get it all credited back to my account. Right now none of my movie channels are working, so when I called to get a service appointment and ask for a credit, another girl, who I also couldn't understand, told me I'd already been credited for the movie channels not working (she was talking about the phantom modem-rental credit).

Also - they always give you an "introductory rate" on broadband - usu about $45-$50/month, then it jumps up to around $60-$65/month. So every 6 months or so I have to have a drink or two, mentally prepare myself for battle, and call them and threaten to cancel the whole thing until they offer the introductory rate again. So the service is pretty good, but dealing with them is a nightmare.

The people in my neighborhood who have U-verse all like it. I'd switch in a heartbeat if it were available.

I have dish for tv and for the most part happy with it. Mainly because I know where the chanels are. Drives me nouts when I go to friends / relatives house and they have direct tv. Because I have no idea what channel Espn, H, or velocity is.
I wll strictly be using comcast for internet. I will check to see if U-verse is available though. I live in an older neighborhood in Madison so I'm not optimistic.

Seconded. When it comes to TV service, I've had 'em all over the years and while I never thought that anyone would be able to match Direct TV's format and options, Comcast's X1 service is top notch. When they first installed it a few months ago, we had some problems with it going in and out since it's all internet/server dependent, but they apparently worked the kinks out and it's been great ever since. Their On Demand lineup is second to none

How does Comcast X1 picture quality compare to Directv. I have had Directv for over 16 years. I also have AT&T DSL, for internet, which is a joke.

I'm truthfully probably not the best person to ask

since I'm not nearly as picky as a lot of the audio/videophiles out there, but I can't really tell a difference between the two to be honest. I will say that the X1 service has a tendency to hiccup occasionally since it's tied to the internet, but then again, Direct TV would do the same whenever there was a bad thunderstorm so they're on even ground in that regard as far as I'm concerned.

I could easily be wrong, but my bet is that cable companies like Comcast have improved their equipment enough over the years such that the days of satellite TV being noticeably clearer than cable are just about over.

Thanks for your response. I think you are right on the picture quality now on satellite vs cable (Comcast). I know when I first got Directv, it was based on pq and I had to buy my receiver, dish and pay for installation. No freebies, back then lol.
