VAERS releases a report every Friday on vaccine related injuries including deaths. Some of you should check it out.

Don’t understand how a thread addressing an issue with a company turns into a 17ing debate about the damn shot. Folks here totally missed the topic of discussion.

You’ve been here long enough to know that anything you post here is open to debate, opining, congratulations (earnest or sarcastic), or unabashed ridicule.

You posted your desire to forego your second shot. That makes it fair game. If you had left that part out, it would have been solely about the impotence of Facebook groups and how toothless these threats really are.

some thoughts about your post, not direct at you personally

1) Catching it is not the preferred way to get anti-bodies, but it works, if you live.
2) Whether natural or vaccine, the anti-bodies do diminish over time which means.
3) you are either gonna have to get vaxxed or get boosted at some point, so why all the fuss?

I guess we could create proof of illness cards that expire 8 months after you were sick and then you get a booster? Please show your proof of vaxx card (#notonmyfreedumwatch) or proof of illness card (#thatsmykindafreedum) for entry?

It's not about safety. It's about health insurance costs. Plenty of unions have pushed back against mandates. They are less likely to do so if they are convinced that the healthcare costs are going to hit them. I know a few business owners that (appropriately) thought that the risks to vaccinated workers didn't justify mandates, but decided to push mandates hard when they realized what kind of healthcare costs would get passed on to all employees if they had a half dozen employees that had significant ICU stays.

It's not just unions. Many state and local governments are self-insured still. I work in city government, and the City's insurance pool will cost on average $65k for each employee who is hospitalized with COVID. We decided to start with an incentive first - $500 for each vaccinated employee, plus if you get a breakthru case you get paid administrative leave instead of having to use sick/vac days. It will cost less than the cost of 1 hospitalized employee. If we don't see a bump in our 40% vax rate I think we will either mandate it for all city employees or add an insurance surcharge that will be at a painful level.

Let me state that I am not anti vaccine before that train fly’s off the rails. I just didn’t like the side effects of the first one.

Seems like the side effects of no paycheck is probably worse.

I’m absolutely not a fan of vaccine mandates in this instance but are people really going to walk out on good jobs? I mean how many equivalent jobs are there in Pascagoula? I’m assuming you work in Pascagoula

Honestly, it's because many folks are just fed up with dealing with all the negative brought on by the freedum lovin conspiracy theorists who worship Trump and are taking something as simple as getting a vaccine and turning it into a healthcare disaster that we all have to deal with. We're all sick of dealing with huge societal impact that is largely avoidable and it makes it hard for me to be positive around some of my family members and friends who are right there with the other lemmings. Now we see that even our national defense could pay a price.

Yes, I work in Pascagoula. There are not many jobs that’ll pay what I make as a first class shipfitter.

For what it’s worth, I got the Pfizer booster shot earlier this week because I qualified.

I’m over 50 with a BMI above 30 and it’d been well over six months since my second shot.

A part of me thinks it’s overkill but the Israelis might just be on the right track here:

In a study published last week in the New England Journal of Medicine, Israeli experts said that in people who had been vaccinated five months earlier, the booster increased vaccine efficacy tenfold compared with vaccinated patients who didn’t receive it.

Link.

And also yes, there are thousands planning to leave the shipyard. October 15th is the date that people are planning the walk out all the way from Gate One to highway 90, if you are familiar with the shipyard. Not just regular craft workers either- superintendents, directors, etc.

I know of a recent nursing grad. Gets "dream job" at UMMC. Vax mandate comes down. Quits. 24yo. Inconceivable. Parents are both far right conspiracy theorists/anti-vaxxers, so I supposed they don't mind supporting the kid? People are crazy and a lot of them are dying because of it right now.

And then there a some that have adverse reactions after the shot....and some die. VAERS will only report 1% of those cases. Why?

People will test the market and see if they can make equivalent or more pay and they will figure it out from there.

I didn't mean to imply that it was. Unless the union is providing the insurance, it's the employers largely that are trying to convince the unions that healthcare costs are going to negatively impact them going forward.

We did something similar to y'all. Basically just explained to the workers that we are largely self-insured and what we would pay for each employee that enters the ICU for a week. Provided an incentive that is similar to yours but smaller, but the big thing was paying exposed people if they were vaxed but making them take their PTO if unvaxxed. That is huge for our employees since they don't have sick days and vacation days, but just PTO. We had a huge uptake and as far as I know, not a lot of ill fillings about it. If we had just mandated it and the only justification was to "protect vaccinated people", I think we would have had major morale problems if not people leaving. But health insurance costs and how they impact their paychecks and bonuses are something they've been living with for several years now (they were before that, they just didn't realize it because the company didn't do a good job of communicating it) and the employees seemed to understand that we weren't being busy bodies just to be busy bodies.

1) Now I didn’t say to purposely get the virus to develop antibodies. Didn’t mean it.. don’t recommend it. But be it as it may.. it happened.

2). Point taken. But if you go the natural immunity route… you could be just made to submit another antibody test quarterly till the mandate ceases.

3) Possibly. Possibly not. If the virus takes the Spanish flu playbook… vaccine will not be required going forth after a while.

however, it’s a consideration for compromise. Especially if antibodies to an original infection are found to last a while.

Per a Harvard study, they only report about 1%. Now some of those incidents they may feel like there are other factors, but still.

Phizer makes the pharmaceuticals that treat blood clots and cardiomyopathy as well.....so THEY MAKE MONEY EITHER WAY.

I had both shots.

Zero side effects. Never even knew I got them other than a sore arm.

Then I got Covid. So I am as confused as anyone about what any of this means.

It means that you can still get covid, even when fully vaccinated.
Typically, when a fully vaccinated person tests positive, the symptoms are lessened and almost never require hospitalization.

Thats all it means.

If she's 24 years old and a nurse, she can go make a lot more doing traveling nursing for a while until people stop being 17ing crazy, so I doubt they'll have to support him/her unless he/she just really doesn't want to work.

I personally know 3 people who were vaccinated and still got covid and got sick. I see many vaxxed people who still catch covid and even some that still die from it. Its not very effective obviously. On top of that my doctor advised against it as did two nurses. Why do we have thousands of Healthcare workers being fired for refusing it if its so good? If we are in such a dangerous pandemic that is overloading the hospitals why would they be firing Healthcare workers for refusing the vaxx??

You know 3 people directly that were fully vaccinated and then tested positive and developed symptoms? Thats wild. I only know 6 people who have even had covid(besides me). But you know 3 people who were vaccinated AND then got sick? And your doctor is telling you to not be vaccinated? Is your doctor the 1 holdout in the AMA?

You must know a lot of people.
