It's harder to manage property taxes (if you want valuable property) than it is income taxes in retirement.....financial gurus keep me honest here.

I don't plan on leaving TX but when I see what I could get in MS in retirement and the low property taxes it becomes pretty enticing. Maybe that's a good way to bring some wealth back to the state? Create a destination retirement community like the villages in FL....just riffing I could be completely wrong.
Would think it would still have to be destination areas with something to offer......like the college towns or the coast.

Nobody wants to retire to Tupelo, Meridian, Brandon or Madison.....the only reason you are there to begin with is the job. Unless you are born there I guess.

Right - folks living at The villages can drive probably 1 hour or less to the airport in Orlando and go direct almost anywhere in the country. Not to mention living that close to a decent size city and major attractions.

Not sure about a specific location, but here is the criteria I would look for.

1. Rural. Large cities have zero appeal to me.
2. Has all 4 seasons and shot at a white Christmas.
3. Mountains
4. Place that doesn't routinely get Satan's nutsack hot or extremely cold. I don't like 100 and humid or windchills of -20.

So places like West Virginia or somewhere along the Appalachians would get a hard look.
Absolutely agree with you 100%

for me it would be Ky or Central/East Tn

I want all 4 seasons, but stay in the South. Lexington, Ky area would be a great place. I'm just really tired of Ms. I love DeSoto Co but there are few other places in the State I could live and I've been to every place in this State. There needs to be some real improvements in infrastructure in this state but no one wants to make that happen.
