Just make sure to get at least an 18v drill. And buy and extra battery. I like Dee Walt as well.

Use them for a living so here is my 2 cents.. Milwaukee and Dewalt are the best with Rigid from Home Depot running pretty close behind. Black and Decker, Craftsman, Ryobi and a host of others are disposable for long term use. When I say long term, I'm not talking about using it every day. I'm talking about it still holding a charge a year from now.

DeWalt all day. That's all I buy, and use them all the time.

Go to their website and compare; they even list the sites that sell them so you can price shop.

2nd the Rigid. I inherited a couple. They were a couple years old at least when I got them and I've had them 3 years this summer and have had 0 problems. I'm just a hobbyist and they may be overkill for that but dang they work well

I like the Dewalt drill/drivers myself. Whatever you decide, make sure to get Li-ion batteries if offered and the battery with the highest amp hour rating. Also, I think most of the drills now are of the 20v variety. Check out toolguyd.com for reviews of recent stuff.

Here's what I have.

http://m.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-12-...FmbPSO39fzwOLDlAphS1ohoCPX_w_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I use it pretty infrequently and it holds a charge like a beast. That may be the case with all the li-ion drills , I don't really know, but this thing is compact and has more than enough power for anything I've tried to do with it.
Granted, that's mostly little stuff like installing blinds and putting together furniture- if you're building a deck or something you may want something more commercial.
Charger doesn't take up a ton of room either.

Milwaukee. Be sure to get Brushless(fuel) with at least 4.0AH batteries.

Personally, I highly recommend their 1/4" hex impact. Does every job the drill does(with the hex drill bit kit they sell additionally), but gives you a whole new realm of capabilities/options that you never realized existed out of battery hand tools. Mine will pop most car lug nuts... And drills steel as good as any hammer drill.

Just doing normal household projects I would recommend Rigid 18V.

Bought the 18V drill/impact combo for about $150 and Home Depot. Makita is nice and has a drill/impact kit with two batteries for less than $200 which I understand is very nice, too.

It's just a Yellow Tool

others are fine.

I am using a Porter Cable 4 tool kit, that I like.

Batteries is where they get you. I'd check into that Ridgid plan.

Can't tell you how much I've used my drill, AND reciprocating saw...

even though I've already got the real stuff.

For small stuff around the house I like my little Ryobi. For heavier work and on the farm, it's Milwaukee. Also the cordless Milwaukee impact wrench is badass.

I agree 100 percent. Ryobi is great for the homeowner. We ran Dewalt on our crew for years, and the batteries are JUNK. They do not hold up and it is cheaper to buy new tools with a battery than it is a battery alone. We swapped over to Milwaukee and cannot be more pleased. Have them all from cordless grinder to heavy impact. They are heavily used and abused, and keep going.

Not all tools are created equally. You are selling that brand severely short of you call it "just a yellow tool". I bought a 4 piece combo kit with circular and reciprocating saw with driver and it's easily one of the best investments/purchases I have ever made at 399$. Use it constantly and have had it nearly a decade. Milwaukee is also another great option. If you use it often, go with a professional brand, if you plan on using it rarely, just buy whatever mid to lower priced you can get, but don't expect quality or durability as a rule, but there are always exceptions.

I'll agree with you on the Milwaukie

I'll pass on spending that much on a Dewalt set.

In fact, if I going to spend that kind of money on tools, I'll just get the real ones.

My 18v Black and Decker is as good as any DeWalt I've ever used. Good for typical stuff. If your living depends on it, go DeWalt or Milwaukee. Makita used to be good 20 years ago, but nowadays I would consider just a bit better than average.

to each his own. i swear by mine and ive been around the block a few times with various brands and this is easily the best cordless. like a lot of things, you get what you pay for. the only knock i have on it is the battery design.

Will probably get laughed at. I bought an 18v durabilt with an extra battery, and drill bits on clearance from target for $10. Wasn't looking for one just saw it and wouldn't be out anything if it sucked. It's pushing 9 years old now and still works great. It's a good buy for around the house use.

I'm talking about it still holding a charge a year from now.

This is the only relevant question for 95% plus of homeowners. I've had cheap and expensive drills with batteries that crap out after a year or two. I wouldn't shell out money for an expensive drill unless I had some good info on battery longevity.

That's the one that I have and it's great. Comes with two batteries and a charger. I bought mine at Home Depot a couple of years ago and it also came with a smaller impact drill, but I find it virtually useless. It doesn't do much "impacting". For masonry, I use a corded hammer drill ... makes for very fast drilling in brick and concrete.

Absolutely go Lith-ion. I have gotten great tools and deals from cpooutlets. I currently have Porter Cable, Milwaukee, DeWalt and see no glaring difference for occasional usage. Get the best deal.

Li-Ion Batteries

Just a tip, for some of you, on some research I did about 4/5 years ago:

They should be charged , and not drained.
You use it, charge it.

Never store in heat, like a hot garage, or storage shed...they die quickly.

I've had mine about 5 years, fresh as a daisy...

That is all!

Just FWIW, Milwaukee drills are made in Greenwood, MS. Good company and good corporate citizen.

Really just depends on how hard you plan on using it. I use them a lot for work and for the farm/around the house. I use nothing but Milwaukee. But then again I'm using them frequently.

I use a Dewalt everyday. Milwaukee is also very good. Don't buy anything that says "Porter Cable" on the side of it.
