OT..How long should we expect to spend

Getting into campus, to Humphrey and through it for check-in, and dropping all the stuff off at the dorm tomorrow for MVNU2MSU? I can imagine vehicle traffic will be pretty slow and heavy.

Remind me to stay in my house and not even think about venturing into town...and by town I mean Wal-Mart and Kroger. The last time I made the mistake of trying to buy something at wally world on move in day I thought I was going to have to call in a bomb threat to get out of the store. Every wide-eyed freshman and their parents seemed to be there each pushing a buggy stacked about 5 feet high with stuff that was soon to be crammed in a dorm room or apartment.

I heard yesterday that one or more of the new residence halls are still not move-in ready.

That's a cluster fudge waiting to happen right there, if true.

I can see Freshman though Senior leg any day of the week. There are easier viewing opportunities without having to need a stun gun to make it down aisle 4. Besides, on move in day all that freshmen leg has their dad in tow who is about to haved a stroke because his baby girl is off to big bad college and he won't be there to scare them off the front porch like he did at high school. He'll be wound so tight that if you say hello to the girl he will probably come over the end cap of Cheetoh's.

I do remember that seeing the parents was the big shocker to me. When I went to State as a freshman, I loaded my crap into my car and drove to Starkville. Once there, I unloaded my crap. I didn't realize so many people (male and female) had half the damn family with them. If I had asked my parents if they wanted to go with me they would have said, "son you are 18 years old, why do you need us?"

Yep. Now parents are showing up to help them paint their room, pick out dust ruffles and throw pillows, and carry in their clothes and TV. And that is for the guys. Girls get even more help.

When I left home in the fall of 1989, my parents said "Call us in a week or so and let us know how things are going".

When I moved into Duggar, I couldn't believe all of the parents walking the hall.

They have 675 volunteers this year to unload cars/trucks to move students in. Parents/Students basically pull up, drop everything off, and move on.

On my move in day, I showed up at the hump and got my key about 9ish. There was no wait to get the key and then the drive to the dorm wasnt that bad. You can pull up and unload all your or your child's belonging on the curb while you go park. Finding a parking spot might be hard but you wont have to worry carrying stuff since it is unloaded. Moving into the dorm will be hard brushing elbows with everyone else in the hallways. As noted WalMart and HWY 12 will be the worse. If in Starkville, stay away from those places. If you are moving in a fairly attractive female daughter moving in please let me know so I can come "help"

When the hell did parents start helping kids move into their dorms/apartments? Our parents didn't leave the house to help either of us and neither of us even considered asking them to.

because damn near every new freshman will be bringing a brand new 52 incher with them. When I watched TV, which was rare when I was a freshman, it was in the 17ing Hightower lobby.

They cut it close, but the rooms themselves will be ready for students tomorrow. The refrigerators and microwaves just got delivered today I believe. However, there is no furniture in the lobbies and the landscaping still has a ways to go. There have been tons of construction and landscape guys working all day to finish.

Also, the new software that activates IDs at check in (to open doors) is as of now not operational. They had better get that figured out before tomorrow. Should be an interesting move in day over there.

I never thought twice about seeing parentshelping their kids move in and get settled.
