How is it ? I get an e-mail every other day from them promoting their product.

First off full disclosure, I do work for the company (not the digital life dept). I think it works well, I have the energy option so I can control the temperature of the house from my phone. I find this useful if I go away for a few days, I can shut AC off and then turn it on a few hours prior to going home. They have a bunch of devices (door locks etc) that you can control from the phone or computer as well. you can also setup programs

Thinking about getting a home security system. Not sure if I want to go with a provider (ADT, Slomin’s, etc.) or a DIY like Simplisafe. Anyone with any experience/advice?

I am debating between Simplisafe and Nest secure.

Simplesafe is cheaper but you have to pay for a monthly service and the most expensive one if you want all of the features. I do like the separate key bad and controller. All in all great value of components but the $25 a month adds up.

I have Nest and Google running most of my house so it would make sense, but the base model is fairly expensive and would need to add more components. Have to admit their door / window sensor that has motion detection is built in. You can get pro home monitoring but I just need the ability to know when the door opens or motion.

I keep looking for Nest Secure to go on sale but no discounts lately unless you bundle it.

If video quality and keeping eye on outside is most important go with Ring

If inside monitoring, Simply Safe is easy to set-up, use and can cancel anytime. (Their cameras are not high def like Ring).

ADT and other “professional” systems are a rip-off in my book.

Oh, and guns.

We have Ring on the outside and alarm.com on the inside as well as for garage doors and thermostat. Oh yeah- 100lb German Shepherd and a loud assed boxer. Get through that and then we just have very big mean people inside...

My Great Dane rarely barks but if someone unexpected shows up her bark is loud, really loud. That would need to be good enough to scare a potential intruder as many of you know Scarlet wouldn't scare anyone once inside. She would lead them to where the Milk Bones are and bother them to get petted but that's about it.

agreed.... have had Simplisafe for about 2 1/2 years, I pay $15/month for their alarm headquarters.... they always call quickly if
an alarm goes off ( usually me doing something
dumb, thus a false alarm)

no contract at all..... I do not have a camera, but easy to add if you are willing to pay additional monthly charge.

took me under an hour to install, and not handy what so ever

hahahaha

With us, the boxer is the one who gets very loud when someone she doesn't know comes into the house...but she is usually just scared shitless...but what an intruder may miss if they have the balls to walk past the loud boxer is the pair of deadly quiet eyes that are about 3 feet off the ground that belong to the highly trained very protective 100lb German Shepherd that is lurking in the background.
