In the final ratings as selected by reporters throughout the state, Hillsborough comes in second, as the top public behind Bergan Catholic. I know the rankings are arbitrarily, but it is still an outstanding accomplishment.
Ryan took Delaware job.Kevin Carty Jr is the coach at Hillsborough. His father, the former coach at Somerville and Sean Carty, former WR at Somerville and Rutgers are on the staff. The Carty's have always run an innovative offense as they were running a version of the spread before it was a big thing in colleges. Ryan Carty, is the offensive coordinator at Sam Houston State and has worked under Chip Kelly in the past. Ryan will be pulling a major OC job in the future.
Makes me wonder what NYCBanker is up to these days...What was the reaction at the Hillsborough Deli, @RocktheRac ? Pictures needed.
Mantz, the guy who went on to coach South Brunswick and become Rutgers HS football liaison for a bit?My alma mater....Hoorah for Raiders, Hoorah for Raiders, someone in this band is shouting Hoorah for Raiders....one, two, three four who are we for, Raiders thats who
B-o-r-o, Boro, Boro, Lets go.
I was there at Giant Stadium in 1980 as a young Bac when Rick Mantz hit a fg in overtime as Hillsborough took home the Central Jersey Group 3 championship over Madison Central 10-7
Proehl, O Hara and Mayer all played in the Super Bowl

He also was a staff member under ash and dismissed by schianoHe also coached Hillsborough. Believe he was O'Hara and Mayer's coach.
Someone in the stands is yelling Hoorah for Raiders......My alma mater....Hoorah for Raiders, Hoorah for Raiders, someone in this band is shouting Hoorah for Raiders....one, two, three four who are we for, Raiders thats who

BAC, from your rendition, you were in the band??
the Hillsborough band refused to go to the state final at Rutgers.....WTF??? the Kingsway band traveled from south jersey. Unconscionable..... that is a team, a school, a community event. 4,000 Boro students and fans paid to go to the game and the band thought it was beneath them to support the ******* jocks???
That's awesome for the band. I know the folks in town take it very seriously and do well. However, for the past 52 years that HHS has existed, the band performed at football half times and supported their fellow students playing the game. Nothing wrong with that. How about the several hundred students that stood for the entire game cheering their team/school/classmates. They paid to go there. The wanted to be there. Honestly, I think every football fan enjoys seeing the band at half-time and enjoys the band playing during the game and enjoys the spirit they can add to the game. WTF is up with the band directors *** to be so GD self centered to not understand that it's still a school and community event that is bigger than the band. I would hope they'd want to support their school and classmate and enjoy the opportunity to play at the game in a larger venue.......you know, for the fun of it. Next year the freshman football kids should all stand at the 50 yard line so the band can't perform. let them have there own competitions. Since you're obviously an RU fan as well, how would you feel if the Rutgers band/pep band took that same attitude??I used to volunteer to help the band in Hillsborough. Yes, the band director gives exactly jack **** about the football team. The band exists to be in band competitions. The Hillsborough marching band wins state titles most years and regularly wins reginal national titles. Playing at football games is a required thing that is looked at as a nuisance. The band has competitions every single Saturday in the fall. Those are often 12 hours days. Playing for what is most often a Friday night football game before just gets in the way.
Again, the Hillsborough band does not exist to play for the football team, but to compete on its own. Congrats to the football team for winning a state title, but that is actually assumed for the band every year. Honestly, no state title for the band is considered a failed season.

I have gone to dozens of Hillsborough band competitions and never once saw the football team there to support the band. Not for you know "just for the fun of it" or any other reason. As for "self centered", the 130 band kids are supposed to give up every Friday night in the fall to support other students who never ever do the same thing in return. You might want to reverse your "self-centered" argument.
The band schedule in the fall has them playing at football games every Friday night and playing in competitions every Saturday night. Some days last 12 hours for them before they get home again. When exactly are these kids supposed to have a social life in those months?
Now, this may surprise you, but most band kids have as much interest in watching a football game as the football players have in watching a band competition. the vast majority would be happy to be "blocked" from going. Not joking by the way. It would make their Friday night.
The band kids live for the competitions. There they are in front of a big crowds that came for the sole purpose of watching them play. As for "blocking the band form the football field". The band would say PLEASE!
As for the football fans who want to watch the band. There are competitions every Saturday. I have been to ones at Rutgers, regionals at Maryland a couple of times, and Giants Stadium a couple of times. At Giants Stadium we would be loading the trucks at 1am to go home. Then unpacking in the high school parking lot after that.
Going to regionals and watching 130 kids from your town take on the best bands from Virginia, Connecticut, Maryland, etc. is pretty cool. They bring in the judges for competitions from other states to make sure there can't be any favoritism. They announce the bands from last place to first. If your name doesn't get called you keep moving up and the kids get more and more excited. Watching them explode when the entire band finally realizes they are the overall winner is awesome. If you want to criticize the band, go to a competition and see what they are really all about.

Man this post is sad . The band kids don’t show up at football games because the football team doesn’t show up to cheer at their competitions. This is crazy . A football game is a community and school pride event. The band can perform at the football game and be a part of the game/atmosphere. A football team can’t perform at a band competition.I have gone to dozens of Hillsborough band competitions and never once saw the football team there to support the band. A football game is a community event to you. Fans show up at all sports and band competitions. Any if which can be a community event. Again the band has it's own competitions to win. As for school "pride". The official nickname of the band is the " Pride of Hillsborough". The school doesn't give any other group that nickname. Just the band. Just because you can't envision a band being equal to or more important than a football team to a school is your hang up.Man this post is sad . You’re not gonna get many sympathizers on a football message board.A football game is a community event to you. Fans show up at all sports and band competitions. Bac is absolutely correct, the HHS Band exists for the HHS Band. The band is a theatrical band and not a marching or pep band. They play the national anthem and perform their "show" at halftime. They add nothing to the gameday experience.
As for the football team, I missed the game. Was at Kutztown for their playoff game. The football program's long term success is founded in the youth programs in town. Those programs provide the foundation for the success in HHS.
Sorry to disappoint, played football and dated the captain of the color guard. I've been to my share of band competitionsI have gone to dozens of Hillsborough band competitions and never once saw the football team there to support the band. The irony is the band website says THE PRIDE OF HILLSBOROUGH......only if it's band related I guessMan this post is sad . People say "Pride" just to be nice to those special kids that join the band.it was called that in the 80s too![]()

Why can’t the adults like the band director and football coach hash something out ? Band Play at the football games and someAverage intelligence of a football player versus a band member. Which group really has the special needs kids? And you can joke, but you know it's true.
Plus a musician will always be a musician. The majority of high school football players are done as football players the moment their high school career ends.
The football coach can send his players to band competitions as punishmentQuestion... does the band travel to away games? Or is it just the home games?
And pardon my ignorance... but aren't band competitions like all day events? Are there any that are at Hillsborough? How tight to schedule do they keep them? I'm picturing my daughters dance competitions where she may be scheduled to dance at 1:00 pm, but may not end up performing until 2:30. Her performance is 3 minutes, but requires 8 hours of attendance...
