Lol if you think Jersey has cheap gas I would strongly suggest leaving the state at some point. Consistently .60-.70 cents less per gallon in Maryland and Virginia than Jersey.... We also pump our own gas
Just looked up average gas prices via AAA in MAryland have been higher than NJ in 2020 and Virginia is about 20 cents less.

A friend in his early 30's had joined me at my beach rental and had such a good time, he started coming down almost every weekend. In late July, he somehow lost his iphone at the beach. He lived about a mile from the I76 King Of Prussia interchange and my summer house was off 35th street in Sea Isle. Without his GPS, he had no idea how to get home. It was literally, I76 turning into AC Xpw to GS Pkwy. He had done it at least 1/2 dozen times. He had to follow me all the way home, virtually door to door.. He is a college grad........

Let's face it , us NJ residents are not smart enough to pump gas. In fact the State Government said so.

In 1949, the Retail Gasoline Dispensing Safety Act and Regulations banned drivers from pumping their own gas in New Jersey. Like so many laws, the statute claims the ban is for the drivers’ own good:

Because of the fire hazards directly associated with dispensing fuel, it is in the public interest that gasoline station operators have the control needed over that activity to ensure compliance with appropriate safety procedures, including turning off vehicle engines and refraining from smoking while fuel is dispensed

Now I for one want this law to remain in place forever. Why do I want to get out of my car in bad weather and pump my own gas? I certainly do not. If they had self-pumping here, the price for self-pumping (yes I mean pumping gas) won't go down, instead there will be a premium for paying for someone to pump it for you. Vote out any politician who tries to change it.
I appreciate being able to pump myself. So much quicker. It'll likely be well north of a hundred hours I will have saved over the course of my life not waiting on an attendant.

My friend’s daughter and her friend filmed themselves pumping gas at at an out-of-state self serve wearing tank tops. They were pretty and very well endowed in the breast department. Somehow, the video made its way to YouTube. My friend was none to pleased and complained to YouTube who removed the video.

I don’t like your friend

I know a guy, very well educated btw, who couldn't get to a NJ beach from PA. His wife, my boss, eventually told him to turn back and go home, she'd had enough.

So, let’s say the average extra wait time is 2 minutes...you fill up once a week...how old are you???

2 min? I obviously assumed a longer average wait time. Plus I often fill my wife's car.
Average. I lived in NY most my life. Take the time to either get out and in car or walk into station to pay cash...and then while some waits seem like 10 mins, they were most likely 3-5 at most. More often, less than a minute. And most people don’t really fill up once a week. So, an average of 2 mins seems reasonable if not generous. So, you may save and hour or so a year.

When I had Diesel cars, I loved that NJ pumped for me !

Not just the smell of diesel on your hands, but on your shoe/sneaks soles.

And that is complete and utter ********. I lived in Virginia and now periodically drive down there. Until that 23 cents per gallon gas tax was imposed three and a half years ago, NJ was consistently 15-25 cents lower than Virginia. Nowadays they are very close, with NJ sometimes being a few cents higher.

In NJ it's legal to pump your own diesel. All my work trucks are and I always pump my own. Always feel bad for the attendant as he's busy scurrying around I just say, "I've got it". Knowing I have to pump about 30 gals of diesel takes a while.

yes.. the current NJ price is about the tax.. not about the cost of pump jockeys.

I’ve lived near viriginia for 30 years bud. Virginia consistently has lower gas (also much cheaper liquor and tobacco products). In recent years it has leveled out but consistently the lowest gas. U don’t know what you are talking about

Whatever brainac - I know what I know, and I was traveling back and forth between NJ and Virginia regularly from 2007-2013, lived there from 2008-2012, and have been going down there a few times a year since then.

Don't start with the diesel talk. My wife went to fill up our relatively new Acura MDX a few years back. Calls me at work to tell me that she thinks that she put diesel in it (it is not a diesel car). I told her that was impossible because the pump wouldn't fit. She responds that she forced it it. I told her not to start the car. She told me that she had already pulled out from the gas station, the car started to buck and then died on the side of the road. Had it towed to Acura, they removed the fuel, cleaned all the gas lines, and tank, and it cost me over $2k. A year later she totalled it so I never found out if there were long term impacts.

Gas prices vary a lot depending on the part of Virginia, so you could both be right.
The argument was getting silly because the phenomenon of varying gas prices happens within all states too, let alone between states. Sometimes even rather drastically between neighboring towns or counties.

Ouch....that's a tough lesson learned for her, and an expensive one. Did you take it out of her allowance, LOL j/k

I told the guy at Acura that I was going to ban her from ever putting fuel in that car again. He told me that wasn't a good idea. She later told me that I stressed her out so that contributed to her mistake. So, it was my fault at the end of the day.

In case you missed it brainiac, I said before the NJ government instituted the 23 cent gas tax three and a half years ago, and it has gone up from 23 cents since then. But hey, you keep doing you and making yourself the most loved member of the board.

guess what ,stations in Nassau county are now more and more pumping your gas for a premium and people LOVE it--those that act like pumping your own gas is some kind of a pleasure or skill , or act like it makes you "closer" to your car ,like driving stick have a problem or love the stench of gas and the germs on their hands

One thing I used to hate is the pump clicks at say 24.87, the attendant would put the pump back. I’d always have to tell him or her to round up to the nearest integer. I like pumping my own gas. No waiting for the attendant and no hassle about rounding up. In and out in less than 5 minutes. Only in NJ would idiots complain about it

I pulled up to a pump in NY and the guy there was shocked that I got out to pump my own gas because I had Jersey tags.

I would be willing to pay a little extra to pump my own gas. It’s so much faster and easier.

I am usually using a CC or will just ask for a round number to be pumped into my tank. If you are filling yourself and paying cash, only reason to worry about having an even number, you still have to walk into the station, wait in line and pay cash. You arent really making much sense...

I would be willing to pay a little extra to pump my own gas. It’s so much faster and easier.
Good thing we don't pay extra for the service here...

Funny, I hate it when people have to round it.... and go into the store to pay in cash lol. I can't understand why people use cash.

It must be true, cuz I just read it on the internet.
The one thing topping off does do, is wreak havoc with your evap system.
As far as illegal? I thought I read Oregon might have a law prohibiting topping off.

In some places (like NJ), it's technically illegal although there is no effort to enforce. When you top your tank, a lot of gasoline volatilizes into the atmosphere and helps to cause ozone and other photochemical oxidants (that is, summertime urban smog). While I'm at it, I should mention that there is a law in NJ against idling your vehicle for more than two minutes for the same reason.
