OT: Hair Plugs

Funny story. Used to work at the Somerset Marriott as a server back during my Rutgers years in the late 80s. One night a bunch of us were hanging out drinking at my apartment and one of those Hair Club For Men commercials came on. Not the Sy Sperling one, but when they started doing testimonials from younger guys. All of a sudden, they are talking to one of the bartenders at the Marriott, using a fake name and pretending to be a surfer. No one even knew he had.a hair system. Was totally bald.

I have a receding hairline but, I don’t care. I haven’t had a haircut since I retired in 2020. The ponytail is getting where my wife is wanting it. I just comb everything straight back.

You can always just slap a baseball cap on top. That way if you lose the hair on the back end at some point, you can get a cap with fake hair attached in the back. Problem solved - just need to do a little color matching and no one will notice.

I had met someone a long time ago that had plugs and for some reason decided to have them removed, his head literally looked like a golfball covered with the round divots in his skull.

You don't even have to go totally bald if you don't think you can pull that off. Close buzz, maybe a #2 tapered down to a #1 looks fine and doesn't look like you're trying too hard. Thankfully, I've been blessed with solid hair but if I were to lose it, I'd take it in stride rather than go plugs, or drugs, or rugs.

I tried close buzz #1 and it ended up looking like #2.

Haha. Did you do it yourself? Go to a higher end barber, men’s grooming type place. They’re experts at fading close cuts to make them look good. I know it seems like it’s simple enough to diy but having a pro will make a difference. Downside is that you’ll have to go back every couple weeks.

Why not take finasteride? I know a few people that have full heads of hair from it.

He may not want the side effects. It works for some people but you can read some of the other issues people had.

Save tens of thousands of dollars.

Be more popular with women and look like a bad@$$.

It's pretty easy and it's sad these companies are out there and dudes are taking drugs when there's an easy way.

Buzz it first. Gradually go down a number each shave. Eventually shave the whole thing with a razor or Skull Shaver. Every guy who does this feels they look better with each move. Better to do it now than wait. Ask anyone who has gone through it.

I don't know what he did, if he did anything, but then there's a lot of celebrities and athletes like Jason Statham, the Rock, Bruce Willis, John Travolta, etc. Even RU's own McCourtys.

If there was a real "solution" for baldness, you would think Jeff Bezos would be using it. And even guys like Wayne Rooney who got work done don't look very good or convincing.

Capri Hair Restoration in PA. 3$ per graft. if you have thick hair and are not a norwich 5 or higher you can get by with ~3000 hair grafts. If you have thin hair and not much of it, a hair transplant may not be that helpful

Disagree, first there is no proof of plugs. Many believe Trump had scalp reduction surgery, which was the thing in the 80’s. Trump shows no visible plugs like Biden does. Bringing Trump into this was about his weird hair style, not his surgery. So I disagree with your statement.

His hair though is definitely fake and the result of some kind of procedure.
