I live with a germaphobe and this is 100% correct. Steak, the germs are on the outside, so rare is perfectly fine inside. But ground beef you take all those germs and mash them into the inside so rare is not fine. Note this does not stop me from cooking my burgers with a nice pink center and this drives my wife crazy.
Lol, I’m in the same boat..

See we do have things in common after all!

What are you talking about? We're not in an economic depression right now. We're in a pandemic. The last serious economic depression was years and years ago.

My point is that pandemics and economic depressions (along with super hot summers) statistically increase the amount of crime. This has basically always been true. And that's relevant because it reveals more of human nature, much like how drunk people tend to reveal their nature after a few drinks, versus how they hide it when sober.

There's been a lot of job loss more recently, especially in 2020. But not an economic depression. If that's what you're talking about, I still don't know what you're getting at with your point about how only some people are affected.

You seem to be talking around what you really want to say instead of just saying it.
Think you’re on to something here… lol

I’d give you a hint as to what he really wants to say, but I’d have to do it on the CE board.
😂😂😂😂

Sure you don’t but that’s exactly why you think violence is an acceptable thing in a place of business. It’s all good If Golden Corral is your place to eat.
I knew you'd make something up about how I think. 🤣 Where did I ever seriously state that violence is acceptable in places of business?

Our history is littered with unspeakably awful acts of violence affecting many millions of innocent people over time. Humans have an insanely violent history. In the past 100 years, we've had a couple world wars, and several attempted genocides.

We might wind up at war with a nation that has enough nuclear weapons aimed in our direction to completely annihilate us (and cause them to be annihilated as well).

And you're hung up on a few pissed off chubby folks throwing tables and chairs in a restaurant? The chubby folks in Philly are the problem we should be focused on?

Seriously?

EDIT: I wonder how "certain" prosecutors kicking cases of all sorts is going to affect the FBI UCR... how uniform will be crime reporting be if they just claim there was no crime?

well... here is some data that I found a bit surprising.. using NJ UCR reports I targeted East Brunswick.. a suburban community with plenty of businesses like Golden Corral. I looked for aggravated assault data. The first URC they had was for 1990 and it had data from 1989 in it.

1989 East Brunswick Aggravated Assault 44
1990 East Brunswick Aggravated Assault 45

2015 East Brunswick Aggravated Assault 19
2016 East Brunswick Aggravated Assault 13

2019 East Brunswick Aggravated Assault 12
2020 East Brunswick Aggravated Assault 19

At least in terms of suburban communities.. the data suggests that THESE ARE THE GOOD OLD DAYS..

But that doesn't mean that social media is not revealing a general uptick in crime even outside the urban centers where certain prosecutors are seeking to initiate vast cultural change.

Overall.. you can easily find year-by-year crime charts like this one for Cambridge MA.

And this one showing property crime in the USA

On the downside, this shows when inflation was high and the economy was poor, crime was rampant. Are we returning to that state? Maybe. So, perhaps social media is showing the leading edge of that trend now.

Very good post. Thanks for taking the time to pull it together.

Quick story. I ended up having Thanksgiving dinner at a Golden Corral a few years ago.

Wife and I planned TG dinner at home. Early that morning we learned that her Mom had a health issue and was taken to the local hospital. My wife made the 90 minute trip to the hospital and stayed there the next few days with her.

I googled TG dinners near me and GC looked like the best option. Went there as a single diner and shared a table with an older gent. He was driving a $120K Corvette and sat at a seat where he could see his Vette through the window. Said that he ate at GC at least 3x per week.

Food was surprisingly decent but havent been back since.

You may want to consider throwing a high chair at this point. There's a run on them right now, so grab one fast! 🪑🪑🪑🪑
OTOH, you have a penchant for rationally engaging in debates where others would lose their patience and/or desire to debate after the first reply.
This is all true and you're 100% right about all that.

I guess I love to argue. I prefer to argue with folks who do so logically and factually and so forth. But even when they don't, I still love to argue. But I suppose my love of arguing crosses the line into more of an unhealthy and childish obsession sometimes. I'll need to work on that.

On two separate occasions, I ate the Pig's Trough.
More off topic, how about that burger joint? I just remember the cartoon guy on the logo had like one eye and the place had some wrap around snaky eating counters. Pretty good burger too from what I recall.

1. No it's not true at all, and I am 100% wrong.
2. You don't love to argue.

I prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt rather than making assumptions about what he's really thinking the way he does to others. And to be honest, I really can't tell what he's trying to say.

He just keeps talking around the edges of some generalization about people. It would have to be a generalization centered around a characteristic one can identify visually or aurally from the video. But the only visual characteristic shared by all the apparent furniture tosses is that they are chubby.

Is he saying that chubby people are a blight on society today (and that there were no chubby people back in the good old days)?

In the Brunswick Square Mall? That would have been Bun n' Burger, I believe. It was next door to the York Steak House. We never ever ate there, because... well, we had a whole steak house to pillage for free.

I bet it is. You’ve been awfully active in this thread and I’m really wondering why??? Some kind of weird fascination with lunatics I guess 😂

I, for one, wouldn’t set foot in a Golden Corral no matter how much steak they had. Rank that up with Dennys as places I just don’t go. Love me some Waffle House though.

His “good ole days” obsession can be traced directly back to a four word ‘aspiration’ found on many a red hat, and more than a few flags that were once proudly donned on the steps of the capitol.

There, you made me say it. This is all your fault!

Yup, crime is not skyrocketing. Just ask Jen Psaki. It’s OK to trash the place. They were just hungry.

Is not my fault. I don't think it's useful to generalize like that. And I'm not going to make any assumptions about him.

Let him clarify if he can.

My statement is based upon mounds of empirical evidence.

No assumptions needed.

The video depicts no visually identifiable trait that isn’t diverse across the furniture throwers. Except chubbiness. So if it was what you say, then he’s either not watched and payed attention the video, or he is myopic. Because the video itself refutes that generalization.

Myopia definitely played a part.

As does viewing the world, and by extension, individual events, through a prism, as each of us does to a greater or lesser degree.

I would argue that his prism is uncommonly warped.

I wasn’t expecting that type of GC TG story. I guess that guy saved a lot of money eating there.

Boss made an assumption. I explicitly refused to make any assumptions. Go back and reread if you don't believe me.

Meanwhile, you still haven't explained what it is you're trying to say about the people in Golden Corral. Why is fighting over food animalistic but killing people over race or religion or oil or sexual preference, or geopolitical power NOT animalistic? Because there was a whole lot of that going on in the past 100 years. You know, back in the good old days.

You say that things are much worse today than back in the good old days and you're using this Golden Corral video as evidence. But for whom, exactly, were things so much better? Because back in the "good old days", black males were hung from trees for looking at white females. I don't know about you, but that sure doesn't sound so much better for the folks being hanged, ya know?

Were the white people hanging black people animals? What about slave owners? Were they animals? Or was hanging an innocent man and/or treating another human being as property less bad than tossing a chair at someone?

I'm going to predict that your response will be mostly a personal attack, if there's any response at all. It's okay. I'm used to it. 😀

I see Waffle House over Denny’s mentioned more than once in the thread.

I find that to be…interesting.
There waffles are amazing! I bring my own butter since they use margarine and have them melt it and pour over the waffle fresh off the 2waffle maker....melts in my mouth!

I said a very different clientele a simple observation from the videos posted. Never mentioned race or color but you did. Explain why you felt it necessary to assume something as vulgar as you did. Think you need to take your race baiting to the CE board. I have no need to apologize to anyone it was not part of my history.

You mean this raid of Pelosi office?

No. I meant the traitorous assault on the Capital...you know, the one with the gallows and all. The one where they tried to overturn the results of the Presidential election and hang Mike Pence. The one where they tried to disrupt the certification of the newly-elected President of the country. With the encouragement of the loser.....

I want to know where all the high chairs came from. They seem to have an awful lot of them.

Also, it seems to me that one of the first rules of Brawlin' Corral should be that if you're gonna swing a high chair, there damn well better be a baby in it. Show some investment in the process.

There was a time when *stuff* like this would happen and no one would care because they'd never hear about it let alone see it.

Maybe we should EMP the world and start over with no smart phones nor social media.
Agreee. Stuff like this always happened, most people just never heard about it. Social Media makes things seem way more pronounced and commonplace.
