But he’s not an OL or defensive player......

I thought the Giants were years from competing?

As an Eagle fan, I LOVE this trade. A guy that was absolutely uncoverable is out of the division. A S with 1 pick in 2 years, a late 3rd and a mid 1st for an all time talent. Ha. To have this work you need all time coaching which the Giants DO NOT have.

Horrific trade by the Giants who will be cellar-dwellers for some time. Thank you Dave Gettleman!
If you didn't have the Jints down as two W's for next year, you weren't going anywhere next year anyway. Giants simply do not need OBJ. They won a total of 8 games in the past two years with him, and with a younger Eli. This is a solid trade for the Giants.

As a lifelong Cowboy fan I can promise you he isn't even top 30.
I would say that is accurate or close to it. You can figure out where I think Gettlemen and the Wash team of Snyder/Allen rank.

I wouldn't want my team to do a trade like this, but I can agree to this line of thinking, if you are doing a full rebuild. Problem is Gettlemen is oscillating between rebuilding moves and making moves that a team close to contending would make. If he simply never signed OBJ to an extension, he would have had an easier time trading him. By signing him to an extension originally he was making a contending team type move. Keeping Eli and signing Tate are also contending team type moves. Getting rid of OBJ, Collins, Vernon, etc are rebuild type moves.

I pretty much agree with all that. Hard to figure out just what Gettleman is doing. The Tate signing doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless he is making people happy who are saying, "You are destroying any chances we have this year."

In the last 20 years there have been 4 WR that won the SB and were voted in as pro bowlers in the same year.

Greg Jennings with the Packers.
Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne with the Colts.
Isacc Bruce with the Rams.

Giants don't need Beckham. Browns won't win a playoff game this season.

2001 Patriots (2002 SB) Troy Brown

Regardless, trade Barkley then? Even less pro bowl RB have won.

Last 20 years, only 3 Pro Bowl RBs won the Super Bowl.
1999 Marshall Faulk (Rams), 2012 Ray Rice (Ravens) and 2013 Marshawn Lynch (Seahawks).

So what should the Giants try to get for Barkley?

Giants dont need a pro bowl caliber RB.

They should get some offensive lineman. And trade for Rosen and draft Haskins.

I’ve been thinking the same about Rosen and Haskins.

Why not?
You need an elite QB to win - regardless of every other position on the field.

Double up and take two chances.
Let them battle it out and then trade one.

Rosen is super cheap because Arizona paid his signing bonus last year.
Arizona was a disaster last year - can’t judge Rosen off that.

Cut Eli today to save an extra 5mil.
Draft Haskins (or Locke - wouldn’t trade up just to get Haskins) and also trade for Rosen.

It's going to be fun to watch Barkley for the next 5-10 years but the odds of him getting a ring a slim. Tiki was a great RB, statistically best Giants RB and it took him retiring to win a Super Bowl. I fully believe that was due to his ego being out of the way and out of the locker room. OBJ is an incredible player but his ego is far to big to be a true team player.

Barkley seems humble and also seems willing to do everything he can to help the team. Let him carry the team while Rosen and/or Haskins figure out how to win. If one of them is a winner the Giants should have a bunch of playoff appearances over the next 10-15 years.

$23 million guaranteed to Golden Tate? Yikes. They could have had Leonte Caroo for the league minimum

The 49ers were stunned. Lynch and Gettleman had multiple conversations spanning weeks. Despite the 49ers monitoring the situation closely, they ultimately never heard from the Giants before the trade was made. Gettleman's contact with Lynch ended the days prior to the conversations with Cleveland. It's strongly believed the 49ers would have been willing to offer more for a wide receiver of Beckham's stature, according to a league source.
