I highly recommend this breed.

My father, mother, sister (fortunately in town), & I just took Dixie on her last car ride to the vet. She is no longer in pain, struggling to breath & walk. For 14 years she was Queen of the Couch & could hold her own on the quail fields; sometimes showing up the "professional" dogs on plantations. Now, she couldn't hold her point as long, but it was great to see them back up her point on some coveys.

She lived a full life & brought us all much love & joy. She loved my folks' mountain house in NC. Always had a keen sense of when it was time to go so she would extend the trip by "getting lost," roaming the creeks, hills, & tree farms making four legged friends all over the mountain for an extra hour. She loved everyone she ever met, but would lie about whether she'd been fed or not.

Yes, your memory is correct. I started a similar thread about a month ago when I buried my own cat. The outpouring of support & great pet memories helped me then. Thanks fellas.

Rest in Peace, Dixie. Eat all the popcorn you want now & "get happily lost" for eternity.

Sorry for your loss. Best dog I ever had was an English pointer mix, and the day I buried her was excruciating. She was my wife's and my "first child".

Sorry to hear about your loss. Best dog I've ever owned was a GSP. They are one of a kind. I've never met another bread that is so connected with their owners.

What miserable *** down voted this?

Sorry Cochise. I lost 2 pets within a month 15 years ago. Brutal.

sorry to hear... i have a GSP... His name is Dak and he is 3 years 5 months and still a legend in the making. stubborn as hell but i'd be lost without him. i'm pretty sure he is exactly like me that's why he drives me nuts occasionally. they are definitely special creatures and a great breed of dog.

Sorry for your loss. Prayers to you, I don't have kids yet and couldn't imagine losing one of my pups all I do is get home from work and work the dogs for a couple hours every night.

I have a 5 month old GSP (her moms name was Dixie, so onions here even more so). Was advised against the breed bc of high energy, etc. I wanted a hunting dog and was willing to run her *** every night so she didn't get energy overload, she is a stud so far and just so happens to be the sweetest creature to walk this earth too.
