OT: George Altman passed away

One of only three players who played in the Negro Leagues, the Big Leagues & the Nippon League [the others were Don Newcombe & Larry Doby].
A lefty stick he once hit 2 homers in one game off Sandy Koufax. RIP big George.

I remember Altman as a Cub and didn't know he played in thew Negro League
George was an imposing figure at the bat , having a few good years as a Cub.
I forgot he was a Met during his career

However, the business manager of athletics at Tennessee A&I, J.C. Kincaide, was a booking agent in his territory for the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro American League. He tipped them off to Altman, who worked out with the team when it visited Indianapolis.11 The Monarchs’ interest led Altman to change his career plans; he joined the team in 1955.<

The other guy who hit 2 homers in a game against Koufax was Altman's Cub teammate, Ernie Banks. Altman said Koufax must have thrown the ball where he was swinging.
