We bid against ourselves for his services. He wasn’t on anyone’s radar when we signed him this last time. Guy was at home waiting for calls.people thinking 'Greg is in any discussion here is just laughable

Where he was an awful DC and had the worst statistical defense in OSU with Chase Young and Bosa on the team . Subsequently firedSo was Chris Ash, but he was the defensive coordinator on winning Ohio State teams.
Impossible for the criminal to go back to the Scene of the crime. They will never take him. Way too many skeletons will be let out of the closet .people thinking 'Greg is in any discussion here is just laughable
That’s not why. It’s because he‘s a losing coach.Impossible for the criminal to go back to the Scene of the crime. They will never take him. Way too many skeletons will be let out of the closet .
He wasn't fired by Ohio State. If people think Ohio State wouldn't have been title contenders with Schiano at defensive coordinator for the last 7 years, they are nuts.Where he was an awful DC and had the worst statistical defense in OSU with Chase Young and Bosa on the team . Subsequently fired
No they're not. It means they're familiar with him as a coach and his extraordinary lack of flexibility or ability to scheme. He wasn't fired by Ohio State. If people think Ohio State wouldn't have been title contenders with Schiano at defensive coordinator for the last 7 years, they are nuts.
Actually he was. Sure, they would have been contenders either way but his D was poor by their standards and when championships are the goal they saw fit to replace him…just like PSU did with JF today. He wasn't fired by Ohio State. If people think Ohio State wouldn't have been title contenders with Schiano at defensive coordinator for the last 7 years, they are nuts.
I’d agree with that, never did have or develop that top notch qb.
Are you sure you're talking about the right person?Actually he was. Sure, they would have been contenders either way but his D was poor by their standards and when championships are the goal they saw fit to replace him…just like PSU did with JF today.
OSU expected more than he delivered.
Grifter Greg. Whether it was officially a firing or not retaining with a new contract, they showed him the door. His D was subpar and they felt they needed better to chase a championship. Are you sure you're talking about the right person?
And I believe he was replaced by hafley for a season from what I remember and the defense improved….i could be wrong hereGrifter Greg. Whether it was officially a firing or not retaining with a new contract, they showed him the door. His D was subpar and they felt they needed better to chase a championship.
That I don’t recall. And I believe he was replaced by hafley for a season from what I remember and the defense improved….i could be wrong here

Very true. He had all the advantages in the world to make PSU a national champion. He just isn't a good coach.Told my psu friend this last week, if he developed a qb, they’d have a national championship or two
I was referring to Ash. Regarding Greg, he was supposedly taking the Patriots DC job and then backed out at the last second. Who knows what it actually true?Grifter Greg. Whether it was officially a firing or not retaining with a new contract, they showed him the door. His D was subpar and they felt they needed better to chase a championship.
Should we go after your coach? At least he got air conditioning in his air conditioning named stadium...That’s not why. It’s because he‘s a losing coach.
JJ McCarthy would probably be the only one I’d say for Harbaugh in his Michigan stint. How many QBs did the QB himself, Jim Harbaugh, "develop" at his time at Michigan--one?
Sean Clifford does not count for Franklin?
Not you, but that's just a weak, BS reason to give to fire the guy.JJ McCarthy would probably be the only one I’d say for Harbaugh in his Michigan stint.
I’m thinking more on the level of say like Tua, Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, etc…with regards to PSU never having someone like that.
McSorley was tough hard nose grinder but he didn’t have the talent and passing ability like the guys I mentioned.
I think only 4 will be considered: Matt Rhule, Cignetti, Saban or MyersYeah but his approach to the game would go perfect with their uniforms. No?
people thinking 'Greg is in any discussion here is just laughable
Do t think they would even consider him for DCpeople thinking 'Greg is in any discussion here is just laughable
Man why would a coach agree to that when the dumb schools are will to give them a bag and also an even greater buyout bag. It's not the coaches fault if the schools are dumb.Surprised to see this in print: "Some theorized that contracts could be structured smarter from the schools’ perspective, with smaller base pay and incentives to ensure that big payments came with actual on-field success."
Talk is cheap, and action is difficult. Any coach with any confidence in their abilities should be willing to agree to a base of $4M (or $5M), and for each win over 6, an additional $1M- that would provide $10-11 million for 12 wins, and incentives could be built in for additional guaranteed years.
After the defense regressed under GS, no way would he have still been thereBecause it was his dream job. And in an alternative universe, there's a Greg Schiano that stayed with Ohio State in 2019, spent an additional six years there, and is currently being begged to take the Penn State job.
In that same alternative universe he would be a winning HC here and then maybe they would have begged him. I see now we have graduated from the word "if" when it comes to GS and are now using "alternative u inverse."Because it was his dream job. And in an alternative universe, there's a Greg Schiano that stayed with Ohio State in 2019, spent an additional six years there, and is currently being begged to take the Penn State job.
That's the point. The schools should band together and stop being dumb with these contracts. But schools are weak, full of weak lemmings in leadership positions without spines.Man why would a coach agree to that when the dumb schools are will to give them a bag and also an even greater buyout bag. It's not the coaches fault if the schools are dumb.
Rutgers doesn't have any of those? Rutgers being one of the largest schools in the country hasn't produced and few Billionaires or Centi-millionaires? I cannot believe that. If there are wealthy Rutgers grands who have made bank but do not give to the school or athletic programs is on the school. Of course an active self motivated Billionaire is best for this type of situation the school and the rank and file fans need to step up more as well. The standard is highly correlated to deep pocket donors.
I have been seeing this discussion about Rutgers football come up every year for the better part of two decades. Why do you think Rutgers has such a tough time getting the fans and a few of the alum "whales" to contribute to the program? Rutgers has a huge alumni base and at least some of them had to have become billionaires or centi millionaires. Why can't Rutgers get the same loyalty from its wealthy alumni and even the rank and file fans? these questions have always perplexed me about Rutgers.True. Rutgers has so little money compared to Penn State that they will always be at a disadvantage.
Sure looks like an egregious waste of money. Playoffs last year, 7 New Year Day Bowl games, blah, blah, and that's not good enough for those inbreds? Sure has a Bo Pelini/Nebraska feel to it.
There were other issues with Pelini, similar to Mark Mangino at Kansas. Love this on Mangino's Wiki page; That's exactly who I was thinking of: I was going to post that Nebraska says: "Hold my beer!" They fired Frank Solich in 2003 after going 58-19 only to tank with Bill Callahan for the next 4 years. They then went with Pelini, but fired him in 2014 after a 9-3 season and an overall record of 67-27. They've come nowhere close to expectations since, and they're now on their 3rd head coach since his firing.
So why keep trying to play big time football when you don't have big time $$$$. That may be something will have to consider if the next 3-4 years.
Schiano's problem as DC at OSU was personel. These coddled 4-5 star athletes don't want to be told to play an assignment D.. They have relied on superior athleticism to dominate their entire lives in football. Add in the bad rep GS got at Tampa Bay because the players and teh media covering them did not want to be controlled in any way and you get teh picture. All these future NFLers on D did not want to be told how to play. This is not a guess.. there are interviews with them during that time in which the DBs said as much.He wasn't fired by Ohio State. If people think Ohio State wouldn't have been title contenders with Schiano at defensive coordinator for the last 7 years, they are nuts.
Available:For the Fire GS crowd, you have to wonder
The best the Cult seems to be able to get is Rhule- unlikely Cigentti would go there and some of the other names like Saban and Meyer are hilarious.
So who are we going to get here?
I guess that doesn't matter?
