I was reading an interesting article today about how the government of Qatar is in a strategic partnership with Texas A&M. Basically, Qatar is funding a satelite Texas A&M campus in Doha that leverages Texas A&M's expertise in nuclear engineering (I believe they have one of the strongest programs in the world believe it or not). In return for funding the school, Qatar gets access to any intellectual property that comes out of research taking place there. This sounds like a major threat to national security, but putting that aside, it got me wondering if some of that Qatari money is also funding Texas A&M athletics. I haven't seen any proof that this is the case, but I wouldn't be surprised - especially based on Middle Eastern desire to get involved with major sports. Imagine these sovereign wealth funds hitching their wagons to college programs? Wouldn't that be something?

Here's the article if anyone is interested: https://www.thefp.com/p/texas-a-and-m-qatar-deal-iran-u-s-secrets
