What's a macro?
A macro (short for macronutrient) is one of the three main types of nutrients your body needs in large amounts:

  • Protein – builds and repairs muscle.
    4 calories per gram
  • Carbohydrates (carbs) – your body's main source of energy.
    4 calories per gram
  • Fat – supports hormones, brain function, and provides concentrated energy.
    9 calories per gram

Example

If a meal has:

  • 40g protein
  • 50g carbs
  • 15g fat
That's 40/50/15 macros.

When people say they're "tracking macros," they're keeping track of how many grams of protein, carbs, and fat they eat each day.

If you're asking because you're trying to lose fat while building functional strength, macros can be more useful than simply counting calories because they help make sure you're getting enough protein while controlling your overall calorie intake.

btw. I used ChatGPT to answer this question.

Just ditch the carbs and you dont need to count macros. Carnivore is the way
Only if you’re not active. Low carb is just an easier way to cut excess carb calories.

If you’re active, you need those carbs. “The way” is whole foods, because “the way” should also involve being active.

This stuff ain’t rocket science, it’s easy to say, much harder to execute.

But I agree on counting macros, I ain’t doing it. But doing it isn’t a bad thing either. It’s like travel ball, you don’t have to do it, but doing it doesn’t hurt your baseball skill - quite the contrary.

If you are active carnivore works great you just up your fat intake as you stay in ketosis.

the free version of Chatgpt is excellent at it.
so, did you create a menu with it or do you enter what you eat and it totals? I've used apps before that you could picture or enter common items and it tracked. just curious for a few more details of how you are using it since it might be equal or better to what I've used.

If you want to really watch the macros based for your body and get in shape the correct way, I recommend this guy and his company.

He was my next door neighbor in Ohio. We became very good friends and worked out together a lot. He is one of the top interventional cardiologists in the country. It really bothered him that he was seeing so many people on the back side of their health issues and decided he should be aiding up front. Dr.Huff is mid 40’s and in phenomenal shape. His workout program and diet structure is developed based on the individuals health history and bloodwork. It’s not some P90X balls to the wall for people just getting back in it. It’s science based. He constantly monitors progress wherever you live. I could send pics of what it did for me in just 3 months. Pretty insane. Just throwing it out there if any one is interested.
