Your boy is getting married later this year (to a girl!) and has been entrusted to pick out a song for first dance and a list for the DJ. What did you use and/or recommendations for some non-standard-type songs for the rest of the reception?

So far the list consists of:
1) "Baby Got Back"
2) that's it

Under no circumstances should I Will Survive be on the DJ's playlist. I've never understood why it's so widespread at wedding receptions. It's basically a break-up song, not a happy to be together song.

Oh, and congrats.

I always assumed that was the bride trying to make up with her crappy & single bridesmaids?

I must interpret the lyrics to this song completely differently than you do if this was your first dance song.

Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space - Spiritualized.

It's a waltz, shouldnt be too hard to dance to. We used it for the first dance.

n the morning she'll show you how much she loves you
And when the night comes you need to show her too
You got to touch her in that way don't you ever stop loving her
And that's how a woman wants to be loved by her man

Now any old fool can stay through the good times
And any old fool can run out on her
So you got to buckle up and face that stormy weather together
And that's how a woman wants to be loved by her man

There's a place Lord there's a place where a man can't go
She said, "you better not put your hands on me
Unless you, unless you're ready to love me"
And that's how a woman wants to be loved by her man
And that's how a woman got to be loved by her man

What's your interpretation?

Find a non live version....I always found this track very powerful.

The song is about death. There’s no better way to signify marriage than throwing a funeral party for your dick. Just think of all the good times as you sway back and forth.....it’s over.

“If you can hear this whispering you are dying”<g-expandable-content aria-hidden="false" jsl="$t t-mrrOl6lxOK8;$x 0;" class="r-ibAr3JU_uJcM" data-ved="0ahUKEwj4vqjR9MrgAhWZn4MKHSQ3BhQQycMBCFcoADAD" style="display: block; caret-color: rgb(60, 64, 67); color: rgb(60, 64, 67); font-family: Roboto-Regular, HelveticaNeue, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); transition: none;">

Push It - Salt-n-pepa
My ding-a-ling - Chuck Berry
Breaking the girl - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Obviously Father of the Bride will not approve of any of the above. Congrats.

Our first dance was "Into the Mystic" by Van Morrison

... i'm going through a separation right now, so maybe that's not a good choice. 17 my life

I've got a spotify playlist for most of the songs we used. If you're on there I can send it to you.

Otis Redding- these arms of mine.

It's about the perfect song.
- hardly ever played so it isnt more of the same.
- not too long.
- simple and steady pace.

Or Van Morisson's Into the Mystic. Thats just an amazi mg song overall.

The worst thing to do is choose some overplayed deal or play something that doesn't age well.

I'm very familiar with the song. It's a good one and a staple on many of my playlists. The tone of the song seems very sultry and the innuendos and double entendre don't necessarily put it as a song I'd dance to in front of my folks. However, that is just my opinion, or how I've always thought of the song, and I am NOT married. So, perhaps I just have a dirty mind.

It's kinda like this one TO ME:
