Boy do they miss Stein
Man Sabans coaching tree is impressive isnt it. Good assistants will get scooped up but I would think that keeps talented coaches coming to you because they know it's a launching pad to be a HC. Oregon lost their DC too I think so they lost everyone.Stein is awesome but lets not forget he basically brought most of their offensive and support staff with him too. That's alot to overcome.
As another poster said, losing key assistants is part of major college football. That's really the most underrated but most impressive part of saban's legendary run at bama. He had to constantly replace entire staff every year. Its crazy what he had to do and experienced very little drop off.
Other than Leftwich who was assistant line coach, who else on the offensive side of the ball came to UK? Can't think of any.Stein is awesome but lets not forget he basically brought most of their offensive and support staff with him too. That's alot to overcome.

What's wild is this isn't somebody new to them. He was the co-offensive coordinator. He and Stein worked together. He was also the LB coach I believe.I mean that's what happens when you got good assistant coaches....
They're going to move on.
New hires ....man you got to be real careful!
Considering recent basketball hires and past issues regarding this, I’m starting to think coaches hiring their buddies is not a good thing.According to Oregon fans, Lanning pulled a Cal and hired friends at the coordinator spots instead of getting the best coach available. That bites these coaches in the *** every time.
They lost their DC to Cal, too. But he’s not doing so swell and California fans are already wanting him gone.Yeah, most programs don't lose a coordinator the caliber of Will Stein and not suffer a massive drop-off in performance. In his time at Oregon, Stein consistently had arguably the best offense in the entire country. Just about anyone they might have hired to replace him was going to be a downgrade. We got to experience that a little on our own when we had to replace Liam Coen, twice.
And we're the crazy ones......giving somebody less than a year to adjust is a STUPID waste of money. I normally don't gripe about fans, but if you give a guy less than a year and are already screaming for him to be gone......maybe YOU might be part of the issue. I mean it's freaking Cal.....the last time they were truly dominate was like 1924.....They lost their DC to Cal, too. But he’s not doing so swell and California fans are already wanting him gone.
Who? Pretty sure he brought 2 people, one of which isn’t here anymoreStein is awesome but lets not forget he basically brought most of their offensive and support staff with him too. That's alot to overcome.

I couldnt remember. I know they lost their DC to Cal. Thats going to be something interesting for us to watch this off-season is our staff being candidates elsewhere.Other than the oc and ol, we took the gm too and their dc left. Maybe more tol but that's just off the top of my head.
That's alot for a normal human being to replace in one off-season. Saban did it every year with massive success but any normal program is going to suffer from that level of turnover.
For sure and losing your qb to injury who was probably a top 10 draft pick made this season wretched for them. Hopefully we can retain everyone intact for at least another season. We finish strong this year and roll next year then probably Sloan and other guys start getting plucked.I couldnt remember. Absolutely. I mean a new coordinator should get 2 years unless he's being Tiger Woods crashing into everyone high and drunk or groping people like Mickelson. And we're the crazy ones......giving somebody less than a year to adjust is a STUPID waste of money. Stein hiring all the extra assistants is going to really pay dividends. I think he will have a really good coaching tree down the line. All the greats were able to promote the next man up. I really believe Stein is going to be that way. Leftwich was an assistant offensive line coach at Oregon, and he has been a homerun. For sure and losing your qb to injury who was probably a top 10 draft pick made this season wretched for them.
