The Fair does very well, but the department members put a lot of time and effort into getting that fair up an running. You don't see many fairs anymore than run for 8 nights.
I haven't been in a few years, but I should go this year for Fireman's Night - ALWAYS a good time. I grew up about 5 blocks away from the FH Firehouse and you could hear the revelers from a mile away….not to mention the horns and sirens blaring from the fire trucks from all the different fire departments that would show up on Fireman's Night. Don't know if they do it anymore, but it was a great way to cap off every summer.
Fromagerie is diagonally across the street from me. Went once with the wife, and I thought it was just OK for the price. I heard it was starting to slide in the last year or two. They look like they are getting ready to open real soon. New paint, stonework on front, signage.
And to rutgersdave, most people in these parts love living in New Jersey. Monmouth County is awesome. Farms to the west, ocean and beaches on the east, awesome State and County parks, and generally friendly people. I tell my kids frequently that they live in such a wonderful place.

The counterpart to the Fromagerie in Sea Bright, Harry's Lobster House, which was long past its prime also recently closed.
Definitely hit Woody's in Sea Bright.
I moved to Fair Haven about a year ago also from Hoboken. We have been very happy here so far. The area has a lot to offer as many people have mentioned. We mentioned Brennan's Deli before, and it is excellent, but the OP will find the Fair Haven has an excellent deli of it's own in the Fairwinds Deli right on river road. Warren Abrahamson who owns and runs it is a former student of mine in Holmdel HS. I can walk down the street to Brennan's but I go to Fairwinds just as often. The peninsula has good eateries.
The place will be Surf BBQ (not shore bbq). Rallo is not the sole owner. The Diaco family is going in with him, same as with Unidici (the old Hook Line and Sinker) on River Road. Vic Rallo graduated Seton Hall Law School. Back when FM 106.3 was still on the air, I used to hear his commercials for Basil T's (now Birravino) several times a day. He has a very deep and distinctive voice. We had a fire call at Unidici when it first opened, and I remember running into Vic. I was expecting someone much taller to go with the voice. It was Briody's when we moved here in 2005, and it had been Briody's for a long time before that. On the corner of Blackpoint and East River Road, across from station 42-2.

I know Briody's very well. Was my Dad's older brother hang out when it was in Jersey City and our stop off on the way home to Middletown from the Peninsula House as a kid...bar pie and a coke. LOL
I think you are referring to The Varsity Club, which used to be on Fair Haven Rd. in Fair Haven - near the intersection of FH Road and River Road (next to Sickles Elementary School). Prior to becoming the Varsity Club it was called the Lock Stock and Barrell, which Springsteen and members of the E Street Band would hit for dinner in the early 1970s.
After a very extensive remodeling effort, the forming building was transformed into the Nauvoo restaurant.

My brother and I along with our friends used to go there way back when around the time ESPN started the Sunday night NFL games.

B2 Bistro in Red Bank- one of the best burgers you will ever eat anywhere. Amazing cocktails & beer list as well. No millercoorsbud crap on tap, only microbrews, crafts & good imports
Zoe Bistro in Little Silver- new chef owner who is making it rain over there. I usually order off of whatever is on special.

Tommys Tavern in Sea Bright is crap. 2 hour waits for poor service and mediocre product... If you even get your food
Tramas Trattoria in Long Branch is heaven. Best mussels around!
Little Szechuan has killer takeout Chinese.
Temple has the best filet mignon around
Copper Canyon has the best steak at the shore
I could go on with more, nut I'm getting hugry and it's 730

Went to Tommy's in the early fall for lunch. My crabcake sucked, and my son's burger was not great. I was told by several it is much better now. Problem is, every time we have tried to go, there is a long wait. It's noisy in there. Not my kind of place.
Trama's -pretty sure this is the original chef from Ama, which was in Altantic Highlands, now in Sea Bright--have heard great things.
Speaking of Atlantic Highlands, the space previously occupied by Ama is Cristines--fabulous. Atlantic Highlands is a great little town. The Lamp Light is good for bar food and craft beers.
I just wanted to thank everyone again for the input. This thread was incredibly helpful and increased my overall comfort level and added to my excitement. This board is the best for stuff like this. Thanks again, and hope to catch an RU road game with some of you guys soon at a local bar.

Tommy's Coal Fired Pizza at the Galleria in Red Bank would be a good spot too. Pretty good brew list.

I live in Red Bank. I grew up in Middletown, so have been in the area most of my life. As most of the other posters on this thread have said, you are hitting a home run in coming to this area. I do not know all the ins and outs regarding Fair Haven, but it is a lovely town and the schools have a great reputation. The Eastern Monmouth County area is a great place to live. There is so much here, with the proximity to the beaches, NYC, even Philly. We have theater and arts, every type of food and retail establishment you could think of (both the big chains for convenience as well as a host of cool and excellent local places). This part of NJ is beautiful as well and is right in my wheelhouse as far as being not too crowded and not too sleepy. The commute on the ferry to 111 Wall Street is the fastest, and prettiest way to do it, although it is costly. But if the finances work it beats the train hands down. I have done both. I have since escaped the city for work, but as long as you are doing it, the ferry works well. I think you will love it here. All the best!

first found the event distasteful and really out of character with the area. thought the event was a one off- really do not believe it to be material and find it as shock value on this string.
I always order the cheddar on the side and use it for the fries and burger without the burger swimming in it.
The original poster is a great guy that I've helped in the past.....he has found a great house as well. I have a streak of some sorts where I've done a mortgage for someone in Fair Haven for 3 straight years, this one would extend that streak to 4 years in a row if everything works out!!!
Rates have been falling all week with the stock market/oil markets in flux. It's also great time to refinance an existing mortgage if you have rates over 4.5% in most cases. Rates are pushing down to under 3.5%, if you have a "Jumbo" mortgage that exceeds 625K in most of the tri-state area.

The Globe is still up and running. I'll probably be there for the snow storm tomorrow. Best nachos in NJ. The bartenders kind of are unfriendly though.
They don't know it now, but they will. I grew up next door, in Sea Girt, and I had zero idea how lucky I was. Nor did any of my friends. But we all look back now, many years later, and just shake our heads at how fortunate we were. It was an idyllic existence.
Parents still there half the year and sister with her family lives there now. As did I for a bit.
I'm lucky in the fact I think my guys (15 and 12) get it.
