Ok Pack - headed to Equatorial Guinea for a little rest and relaxation. Looking for any tips and suggestions for things to do, places to eat, and cool spots to hang. So far we definitely are planning to hit up Bioko Island, Arena Blanca beach, and Monte Alan national park. Would it be worth it to do a side excursion over to Gabon or Cameroon? Much thanks in advance!

Thats the most unique 'OT ask the pack vacation activities' thread in...maybe ever.
Its frigging western africa man, ask a travel forum for suggestions.

'Hey everybody, we are heading to South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands in a few weeks, what good restaurants and sites should we visit?'

What...a random remote island chain in the south atlantic near Antarctica hasn't been visitied by many here?!?

Good Lord... West Africa for R&R? That's like a peaceful afternoon hike up K2.

You are a certified badass.

Actually just got back from a two week Trip to Antartica in February (Summer). Unfortunately, did not get to sample cuisine as there is not a single permanent resident on the continent but did stop over at Port Lockroy, a British research/museum to stamp passports and 3 other continental landings - an other worldly experience....One night camp out

Proudly wore my State beanie and wind breaker and well received by a Penn State grad and a Californian. When I did my Polar plunge, the Californian yelled “3 cheers for the Bulldog” - I’m an old guy - got a little extra cred....

If you’re going to Cameroon, how in the world are you ever going to afford to go back to Omaha ever again?

Now, back to Equatorial Guinea, sounds like a great adventure trip, get required shots and good to go. Be sure to take State gear (beanie, etc.) - tons of recognition.....take plenty of pics and report back - the pack is waituwith baited breath....

Freaking rookie West African traveler. Every Sixpacker knows that Guinea-Bissau is the premier destination. When we stayed last year, we paid $6 a night for the best hotel rooms in the capital, and the tourist crowds were nowhere to be seen.

Be sure to try the Weegie worms while you are there. I like the griddle fried ones better then the oven roasted. The fat white ones are the best - much better than the black ones, which (to me) seemed to be all crunch and no gut juice.

I feel like I need to mention this, so forgive me if you already know. Stay away from the Gibbon nuggets. Regardless of what the street vendors might tell you, they really are tiny monkey testicles. If you can find mosquito spray, buy every can they have. Homeland security won't let you pack any in your luggage and they have skeeters with 2 or 3 inch wingspans that love the taste of tourist blood.

I forget the name of the viper they have, but he makes the white mouthed mamba snake look like a teddy bear. Run if you see one, because he will se you as a threat he can easily deal with.

If someone walks up and says, "I bet you 5 dollars I can tell you where you got your shoes." you have entered a spatial warp and drifted into New Orleans. I pity you if that happens.

Made it to Antarctica in 1979. I guess the place hasn't changed much.

I was on Safari in the Masai Mara in Kenya with my father-in-law a few years ago. We're on a dirt air strip in the middle of NOWHERE with a handful of other tourists (maybe 50), everyone waiting on a different puddle jumper. Paw-in-law was wearing an MSU jacket. A lady approached us after noticing the jacket, and said she was from Columbus, where my family is from. This lady made a connection that she went to high school with my aunt. Smallll world. Wear that gear.

The State Department travel warning contains the same information I warn people about when they travel to New Orleans. You will be fine.

Friend of mine visited Malabo last year and said the rare Rhesus steaks at The Shamba were literally to die for.

Ever been to Santiago, Chile? I went twice last year.
Check out their soccer stadium - The Estadio Olimpico.
