I am looking for any recommendations around electricians in the Starkville area. A breaker tripped for a room in the house and I haven't been able to get it to stay on.

unplug everything in that room and adjacent rooms and see if it still does it.

it’s not hard to check for a short. If there is none.. it’s also not hard to change a faulty breaker.

Sounds like a bad breaker to me. You can replace that yourself for less than $20. Replace the breaker and see if it fixes it. You can probably go watch a video on youtube that shows how to replace it, but it's very easy.

I tried that yesterday. All the switches are off and devices unplugged but no dice.

you have an electric meter? Can be an el Cheapo.

with the breaker off.... set your meter to Ohms. Don’t matter which one. Stick the leads into one of the plugs. Doesnt matter which one as long as it’s on the affected circuit. They are all wired together on the circuit. If the meter reads anything at all.. you have a short. If you get no reading.. you more than likely have a bad breaker.

youtube how to change one. It’s no problem for the minimally handyman proficient person.

Silas Morgan, from Maben but does work in Starkville. Was electrician on my build and has come back to do a couple jobs for me. Good guy, fair prices, good work. 662.769.8665 [email protected]

You'd see line resistance(should be a lower number but detectable) between the neutral and ground and have continuity there. Assuming a bonded neutral at the panel.

Easier to do a continuity test between hot and one of the other two with the breaker off. Continuity with hot and either of the other two = direct short. Hot is the short upright slot(and black wire on the first phase or red on the second phase in normal housing applications). Neutral is the longer upright slot and always a white wire. Ground is the round pin, green wire. No continuity between hot and one of the others = no short = likely failing breaker. Confirm it by pulling the hot wire from the breaker itself and seeing if it trips with nothing at all downstream.

Assuming short, follow electrical flow to find the location on actual problem. Unplug a hot(black wire somewhere about halfway through the circuit from behind a wall plug with breaker still off and see which direction still shows the short(measured via continuity in that direction). Then split the difference in the direction of the problem and retest. Pretty quickly you narrow it down. Eventually you'll have a section of wire that shows the continuity between hot and neutral/ground or a plug itself. That'll tell you the short culprit.

Note -- you need a little bit of electrical savvy to do this. Don't get yourself electrocuted trying. I'm not an electrician. Just spend a ton of time dealing with power headaches for my job that require me to think and troubleshoot somewhat like one.

Call Live Wire electric or Berry Electric both in starkville. If you can't find their numbers let me know. I've done business with, their very good.

Anybody other than Live Wire. I wouldn’t use them if they were the only electricians within five counties. Berry Electric is pretty good.
