Ed bought me and my brother an ice cream! I forget the details but he was doing an autograph signing at a store opening in Woodbridge Center mall back in the early 70’s. After the event I was with my brother just hanging out waiting for Dad to pick us up. Ed came out of a side door near Friendly’s ice cream (I think) with a security guard and a mall worker. We went up to him (we were probably 10 & 12 years old) he smiled and asked if we got our autographs (we did). He said he’s shopping for his wife?.. and not to tell anyone where he is. He then had the mall employee tell the folks at the ice cream shop to give us a free cone. We were on top of the world! Always one of my favorite Mets. RIP Ed!

Great Met and a great pinch hitter. Became an advocate for organ donation after he became ill. I wasn't a Met fan growing up, but agree with @RAHWAYBOB - another part of my youth is gone. For many years outside of the game of the week on Channel 4 and Monday Night Baseball on Channel 7, the Mets and Yanks on Channel 9 and 11 were it if you were a baseball fan.

RIP Ed Kranepool
One of my favorite Mets and like others implied: losing Ed is another one of my back in the day baseball players I followed gone

He wasn't always #7,wearing #21 through 1964 before giving it up in 1965 to Warren Spahn who should have packed it in after the previous season.
I remember seeing his first MLB hit,a double to left at the Polo Grounds off of Don Elston.

Ed was great.

I wonder how many people are left who had a double to left at the Polo Grounds.

Met Kranepool and Ron Hunt at Franklin High School in Somerset in the early 60's. They were signing Mets pennants. He and Hunt were both nice guys.

One of my favorite players when I was a kid. Got to meet him and a bunch of the other Mets at a charity event when I was about 11 years old. Still have his autograph somewhere. RIP Ed Kranepool.
