OT earthquakes

For those of yall that have the "MyRadar" app, you may have noticed multiple earthquake icons this morning. Costa Rica & Equador and multiples through Asia along the Nepal fault line. Equador quake listed as close to 6.0. Anybody got anymore info? Seems the news hasn't quite spread as of yet.

There's no question fracking is causing a lot of earthquakes in the US. Not sure if there's any real fracking going on in Ecuador, Costa Rica or Nepal, but they're all on major fault lines.

The early Christians of the New Testament were convinced the end of the world was imminent. No one knows the day or the hour. It could be today, it could be another 5,000 years, or longer.

You are correct, the Fracking quakes are a new deal and not related to faults

but to the disposal of waste water. The oil companies are po poing the quakes right now but I got the feeling they are going to become a bigger issue as this energy revolution in the US tries to move forward.

Just throwing in a side note to quakes in general.

Technically, the sun will expand and possibly engulf the earth. The effect is the same though. That's one thing I don't spend too much time worrying about though. Just like I don't spend too much time thinking about the end of the world prophesied in the Bible. One thing I do know is that my world on Earth will end sometime within the next 40 or so years.

Yeah. Fracking quakes have nothing to do with fault lines. So far, they've all been small quakes so nobody's paid too much attention to them. I hope they stay small, but I suspect there will be a bigger fracking quake sometime in the next decade.

That's true but the equipment used and the way they measure earthquakes is different now than it was 30 years ago before fracking was a big thing. Pumping a slurry down hole into the formation at over 10,000 pounds is enough force to measure on the new equipment as an "earthquake" when it's really not. Most of those 300 earthquakes were not able to be measured anyway on the old equipment.

I'm not saying fracking is great for groundwater and the environment, but it's not as bad as they make it sound. Plus, I like my gas under $2.50 at the pump.

Earthquakes here in Costa Rica are 100% unrelated to fracking. We have no oil here and therefore the practice does not exist.

In sept 2012, near the end of the Mayan calendar we hade close to 2,800 quakes of 2.0 or higher. I need to find that map with dots over every quake that month. Was a giant blob over the country.
