Leave it to a Rutgers guy

However Giants defensive back Logan Ryan let the Eagles off the hook, according to NBC Sports’ Peter King:

Fifteen minutes after the game, I got veteran Giants DB Logan Ryan on the phone. I’d hoped he’d come out with barrels blazing. “Wish I could give you the explosive stuff you wanted,” Ryan said a few minutes before midnight. “There will be a lot of opinions about whether they were trying to win. You want to play the game to win, but I don’t play for the Eagles, I don’t coach for the Eagles. It’s their team. Winning six games doesn’t give us much right to get pissed off about this. We didn’t play consistent enough all year to earn it.”

Just curious if you watched the game or just read the box score. Hurts certainly has a long way to go in terms of development, and I'm even ok with Sudfeld coming in. But once it became apparent that Sudfeld was not even functional nor appeared prepared in any way ...... and with the Eagles with a chance to win late in Q4, you go with the guy who gives you the best chance, unless you just don't care about the outcome. Further, if Hurts is your potential future, why not see what he has in crunch time rather than looking at your 3rd string 6th round pick journeyman as if it is the 4th exibition game.

Bottom line, Eagles tanked the game for the better draft pick. It may help them longer term, but may also may affect how they respond to Pederson in the future as well.

It's funny reading some of the Giants fans comments from last night. Calling for the NFL to investigate and punish the Eagles. Hysterical. Acting surprised that Sudfeld was put in. Yet that was the publicly known plan long before the kickoff. Was posted right here on this thread at 6pm last night by @bigmatt718 Another clue was didn't you all see Wentz wasn't dressed to play?
Anyway The NFC East was embarrassing this year. They are all years away from respectability.

I was proud of Hurts, kid played his *** off under difficult circumstances and made plays with his feet.
Replaced by a non functional player.
Enjoy your stats.

Yes watched the entire game.
And Hurts sucked.
That 1st TD drive was because of a PI and the WR pass.

Sudfeld sucked too.
1st drive INT is on him.
The 2nd drive fumble is on the Center.
Low snap and then great play by the defense to poke the ball out.

Should Pederson have gone for the tie and kicked the FG? Probably but not a terrible call.
I'm always on the side of "if your team is out of it then play aggressive and go for the TD".

Everyone saying "Hurts could have gotten close game experience".
That's exactly what Pederson did going for it - put it in Hurts hands.

“If the game goes south” was the quote. It was a one score game pretty much the entire night.

Listen, I couldn’t care less as neither the Team or Giants are making any kind of playoff run, but this game was tight all night. Jalen at least provides another element to his game and deserved a shot in crunch time. Sudafed had absolutely nothing. Guy is a career backup.

The Team will get stomped by Brady’s Bucs anyway.

No team with 6 wins should be complaining about anything outside of their performance keeping them from the playoffs.

I don't like the Dolphins at all, but you can make the case they have the right to complain about yesterday's events. They are a 10 win team that didn't make the playoffs because the Bills played their regulars while 7 win Washington got in by beating backups (and the Browns beat the Steelers backup QB as well).

Wrong thread, Eagles coach gave up on his players chance to win a game.
You can post a Giants suck thread and don’t belong in the playoffs and I’ll agree ....i won’t mention the Eagles in that thread

Now thinking you didn't watch the game.

If your so proud of Hurts and how great he played - is he better than Daniel Jones?
As a Giants fan, game was encouraging at least in that the Hurts-lovefest can end.

I have no clue, nor do I care about your ridiculous comparisons.
Hurts gave them a chance to win, the other guy didn’t.
Not that tough.
And stop putting words in my mouth, I never said he was great, or remotely close to it....love fest, ridiculous
He made plays and gave them a chance.

The Eagles did exactly the right thing for their team. Drafting at position #6 is more important than winning last night’s meaningless (to them) game.

It sounds like Wentz wants out. He and Pedersen are at odds and Wentz wants a trade. Wentz is due $10million after the Super Bowl so I don't see this dragging out. There is no way Wentz and Hurts are on the Eagles next year.

Eagles had zero intention of playing to win last night. And before anyone blames Doug, this was orchastrated at the top by Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman, the Eagles owner and GM.

League should discipline Eagles coach

Take away a draft pick or make Eagles play most difficult schedule for that nonsense. Have to be penalized.

Integrity of the game!

And with all the concern regarding gambling, how can the NFL not address this??? No different than fixing games.

Eagles are picking 6th in the draft. Had they lost, they'd be picking 9th. According to the Value Chart that all NFL teams use, that improvement of three slots in the first round is worth the equivalent of an extra pick near the top of the third round.

OK you are Goodell. You call Pederson and probe him for his reasoning. He responds with a straight face, "Given how the game was going and how Hurts was performing, I felt Sudfeld gave us the best chance to win at the time." What you going to do? Subject Pederson to a polygraph test?

This had nothing to do with Hurts performance. Eagles HC decided before the game he wasn’t going to worry about winning a meaningless game. It was embarrassing how it all went down but bringing Hurts into it ignores the obvious.

Agree that the Eagles intentionally tanked the game. Don't agree that moving up 3 slots in the draft is more important than a locker room having confidence in a coach or organization.

Imagine this was a Rutgers game.

How many Rutgers games have we watched where the QB is 7/20 but our defense has kept the game close.

Every game thread is "3 points? No way we score again. We have no chance to come back."

What was lost in all this faux outrage is that for the 17th year in a row the NFC East has not had a repeat NFC East Champion.

I saw it in the first 5 games the Giants played

Giants were a bad team devoid of much talent from the start of this season. They actually got slightly better as the season went on. The Eagles had much higher expectations going into the season and actually got worse. Not that any of this matters, as both teams need a lot of work to improve next year.

Some in this thread need to read this 3x. Lotta sour grapes over a terrible team who didn’t deserve to be in the playoffs.

I don't think it was that the 3rd string QB got playing time as much as the timing of putting him in that was highly questionable. Why not give him some series in the 2nd or 3rd quarter rather than when the game was hanging in the balance?

The other thing about this whole debate is many on here complaining about tanking were advocating that it would be better for RU to lose at the end of the Flood and Ash eras so they would be fired and we could start the process of getting a new coach. I said at the time that I understood the reasoning but it is tough to root for your favorite team to lose.
