So, I pour a glass of $50 bourbon this evening. Kids are screaming, work sucks lately and I need this, so I leave the cheap **** on the shelf. I let it sit for a couple minutes after I pour, then I come back and there's a dead fruit fly in my glass. I fish it out and drink up. No one saw, so no problem. Truth be told, I would've drank it had it been Jim Beam. I can't be the only one who would do this.

Dude flies don't bother me, especially when it comes to alcohol. I'm sure ole miss people can pour it out since they can afford to just buy new **** whenever, they are all perfect and have plenty of money ya know.

Wouldn't think a second about it. I'm pretty sure I have drunk bourbon with the fly in the glass until it gets to a position where I can fish it out more easily.

Are you kidding?

Hell no, you shouldn't think twice about that. If you've ever been in or seen the "de-barreling" process at a small batch house, then you would know that alcohol takes care of a lot of ills. Insects, splinters, dirt and dust are all part of the flavor "process". Then it's filtered and bottled and we buy it. Clean.

Do not EVER inquire too deeply about food processing in commercial industry. It would make you stutter. The number of rat, insect and trash parts per million allowed by government is disgusting...

This is my all time fav pack post since 2003. It owned me.

And yes, you did the right thing.

I mean, I am curious on what brand of bourbon cost $50 a glass bc it is swill but none-the-less, still a 6pack remembers for me

Edit - note it is 50 a bottle, not a glass. Carry on. Fyi, that isnt that much for a descent spirit

Protocol would be grabbing the fly by its wings and telling the little greedy bastard to spit out the rest

I am curios what this $50 bottle of bourbon was.

I've not found a bourbon that can be had in Jackson, MS that is better than Woodford Reserve. No I've never seen any Pappy in Jackson.

A bottle of Van Winkle would set you back far more than $50 a bottle. On the secondary market it could cost $50 a glass. That said, I've never tasted the stuff. I like Makers as much as most of the high end stuff but if the opportunity presented itself I'd swallow a glass of Van Winkle flies and all. No worse than a tequila worm, I figure. And hell, those are tasty.

Don't worry. The little fella didn't drink too much of it.

I'm with you. Flick him out of the drink and rock on.

Was the bourbon in a Yeti cooler prior to pouring? Details, gotta know details in order to make informed opinion.

I wouldn't have faulted you if you didn't fish it out and treated your digestive system to a little extra protein.

I'm not a bourbon connoisseur, but the Van Winkle is the best I've had. Very nice.

Regarding Pappy, if you're paying over $1 per year, then you're getting ripped.

Despite not having a large supply of 18 or 23 year old Pappy in Jackson, I still wouldn't pay $50 for a glass of the latter.

It was a George T. Stagg release. It's one of the brands from the Buffalo Trace Distillery that I picked up on my way back to Texas from West Virginia. I'm not sure how available it is, but it's damn good. No Pappy around here either. Never tried it.
