Truly are a man’s best friend. Had to put down our oldest French Bulldog today. She lived a fantastic life in her 11 years. With that said, what types of dogs do you guys have? We’ve got another 1 year old Frenchie.

So sorry. Those are extremely tough times. The night I had to say goodbye to my first boxer...I'm still not sure how my steering wheel survived the beatdown it took on the drive home.

On my 2nd boxer. That's my first one in my profile pic. He made it almost to 10. My current boxer is almost 7. Both are/were 90+ lb clowns. All muscle, all heart, all fun.

Had to put down our Newfoundland a year ago. Probably getting another. Maybe a Landseer or a Great Bernese. We got the kids a male kitten who has been a great addition. Really good little bastard. Friendly but tons of playfulness. He chases around the kids like a puppy

We have a chihuahua/terrier mix. She is a rescue just over 2 years old…we think.

Sorry for your loss. It took us just over 2 years after we lost our previous/first dog until we were ready for another one.

Sorry man, my female golden retriever died on her own the day before I scheduled to have her put down, great dog, ruthless bird hunter. Only waited a year before getting another female golden, this time around has been a challenge. Dog ain’t much a hunter, doesn’t have the smarts of the last one, had to save her from eating rat poison right before Christmas, my wife tells me to stop trying to make her my old dog, time will tell!

Had Danes and now have a St. Berdoodle. Amazing how different breeds have different personalities and it's consistent.

Sorry for the loss buddy. I have a 3 yr chocolate lab. Truly a member of the family. No matter how hard of a day a person has or if things are going rough. Dogs are always excited to see there people.

Lost a goldendoodle in June of '23, she was just shy of 12 and putting her down was literally one of our hardest days. I guess we should be thankful we can say that because obviously there are worse things. That dog grew up with our sons and spent all of her days at home with the family. We got another doodle on labor day of '23, and this is truly my dog. I work in a small office with 2-6 people depending on the day, and she is there with us every day. 65 pounds of happy goofball. Sorry for your loss.

Lost our female Rottie in November 23. Overcorrected with 2 Rott puppies the following January. So now I have 14 month old brother and sister demons with wood chippers for mouths. Wouldn’t have it any other way…

Very sorry to hear this news of the passing of your companion.
We have a 4.5 yr old lab/boxer mix. He’s a 95lb goof. Smart though.

So sorry my friend. Extremely tough situation that frankly you can't prepare for even though you might know it's coming. My dog tore his ACL in early December, can barely walk, isn't eating (he weighed 120 lbs and would eat nails if he could), and had his surgery pushed to next week due to weather. I'm afraid that even with a $2500 surgery he'll never get the use of that mobility back and be in constant pain the rest of his life because he's in a lot of pain now. If he's in pain constantly and can't walk I'm scared I'm not man enough to make that tough decision. To answer your question he's a white German Shepherd and lab mix. Looks a lot like the Marley and Me dog.

I’ve got two Kangal/mixes.

Wildly protective dogs that we went to the well with twice more because the first one(the one who died) was the best dog I can ever imagine anyone ever having.

I couldn’t imagine a house without a dog honestly.

Sorry you are going through that. Some of the worst pain ever. A year ago, I had 3 Vizslas. 14, 9 & 6. Put the 14 year old down in April (hips out) then the 6 year old, MY smart, fun sweet absolute favorite dog got super aggressive cancer and had to be put down. Cried like crazy for both dogs. Bought a Weimaraner but I'll probably go back to Vizslas. Fun, athletic, smart dogs that are great with kids and super sweet.

English Lab. Most fat obstinate dickhead of a dog I’ve ever had, and we’re obsessed with him.

Losing a dog sucks. I'm not much of a cryer but when I had to put my last dog down but I balled like a baby. Old English sheepdog mix, great dog. Kids grew up around her as babies and she never complained when they were rough with her.

She had a great life because you provided it. Well done. Lots of animals don’t have good lives.

It is an awful day, no escaping that. The last dog we had put down we paid to have a service do it at our house. ~$100-150 more than the vets office but the dog seemed way less afraid plus we didn't have to walk out crying in front of strangers. They took her to be cremated too.

So sorry for your loss, I know that's tough. How old do Frenchies normally live. I hope you're other one doesn't get lonely and/or depressed.

Do you think you will get another dog?

I have a female Rottweiler I adopted when she was 4 months old. She came to came from a real bad situation where she was kept in a closet with zero socialization or play at all. She's a real sweetheart & she's very protective at the house, in the car, etc (which is what I want). She's young and in great shape (we job 3mi 5x a week, & she weighs 117lbs which is massive for a female. She's great with dogs & shows no aggression at all, but she is very confident.

Lol sorry for rambling about my dog my friends! I love dogs & I'm a dog trainer as a 2nd job. They're seriously better than people lol! 😁

What are they mixed with? How much do they weigh? I'm like you & won't ever have a house without a big guard dog. All dogs are sweet & fun but it's nice having the extra benefit of protection.

My next dog will be either a Kangal, Caucasian Shepherd or a Central Asian shepherd. It'll probably come down to figuring out which of the 3 breeds does best in hot weather because I live in the South.

We always had outside dogs on the farm growing up - have our first inside dog for the past 5 years. Truly a part of the family and goes everywhere with us. Can’t imagine how much it will hurt when that day comes and sorry you are going through this now Leodis.

My late female rottie tore her ACL when she was 4. Had the surgery - it went very well and she had another 4 years of a great active life - be positive for your pup because they pick up on your vibes. The surgery technology these days is amazing and these type of repairs are highly successful. Good luck!

Eleven years is a damn good life span for a bulldog. We've got a Golden Doodle at our house since I wanted a dog that wouldn't shed. It's my daughter's dog. What a fantastic "bread". Just a ton of fun. I'm biased toward big dogs and would never own some little noise maker. A lot of great breeds out there, but tough to beat a Golden Doodle for an indoor city dog.

Seems to me that male cats can act a little bit like dogs in that they will play and always want to be around people. That's been my experience anyway.
