Does anyone remember the store Grant's or Grant's City? Where were they located in NJ? I have a stove that says purchased at Grant's City, but I don't remember Grant's City. Also, what was the Kmart store on Easton Avenue before it was Kmart?
W.T. Grant, or Grants, went bankrupt in 1976. State locations were in Wyckoff, Millville, Hackensack and Franklin Township.Does anyone remember the store Grant's or Grant's City? Don’t forget the S&H Green stamp redemption storeThere was a Grants in downtown Dover near the Drive-In on top of the parking garage. Dover was a big deal at one point. Bunch of movie theaters, restaurants, shopping Mecca for much of Morris and Sussex counties.
The fact that Kmart could run anyone out of business speaks volumesHad a Grants on rt 45 in Woodbury Heights when I was a kid. They renamed the store as Grant City a year or two before closing for good. Kmart in Mantua ran them out of business.

While it may seem hard to believe now, there was a time when K Mart was the largest retailer in the world. In fact, many of the major retailers that are now out of business were very large, dominant retailers during their peak years. The fact that Kmart could run anyone out of business speaks volumes
No, thank YOU for the memories...There was one in Edison,rt27 near an acme.Between Knapp and Division. My daughters still have items that were purchased there in the early '70s. Great pizza nearby at Zia Lisa. Thanks for the memories.
There are 68 Acme stores in New Jersey alone. In fact, they had a Memorial Day sale on catapults this week.Is there still an Acme? If not, where does Wily Coyote get his supplies?
There use to be an Acme in Princeton Jct. When I lived in West Windsor I use to go in there and I'd see John Nash (A Beautiful Mind) all the time. He lived about a half mile away. There are 68 Acme stores in New Jersey alone. In fact, they had a Memorial Day sale on catapults this week.

Yes, both the Regent and the New were across the street, also had the Liberty and the Ritz on other streets nearby. Saw the Three Stooges and Officer Joe live at the Ritz. Lived a block and a half from St George Ave (Route 27) and could hop the bus to Elizabeth for about 18 cents. The one in Elizabeth was on Broad St. across the street from the Regent movie theater.

Every dog has its day. Someday, Walmart will be history. We might not be alive to see it, but some kids who are alive today will. The fact that Kmart could run anyone out of business speaks volumes
