My wife posed the question to me?

I'm 5'9" shrunk from 5"10 and weigh 140lbs. Eat well, exercise all of that BS. But comparing myself to when I was in my twenties probably not. But then what is the answer to Healthy?

I worked hard to get into shape for our trip to Europe, put in 50+ consecutive days of both lifting and treadmill, 3 miles variable incline. Yes, I’m aware that such a program is recommended by nobody who knows what they are talking about. I’ll go further and stipulate that it’s a stupid program to follow. Thing is, my older daughter has hit a professional and personal high and I’ve been feeding off her example, our shared happiness. I was a tiger. Still am!

I consider myself healthy for my age(58). Not on any meds. I am in better shape then some others I know at my age but could always be in better shape. The lack of daylight screws up my outdoor activity after work. I ride bicycle as much as I can, mountain biking, gravel biking or road biking. I ride up mountains a lot around State College which I feel is a better workout then just riding flat rail trails or roads. My legs feel better when I do. It allows me to play other sports like volleyball and pickleball without knee pain. I also hike a lot and walk a lot. I try to get out at 3-4 times a week but like now I have gone about 2-3 weeks without doing anything because of other obligations. I am taking the advice from people still active in the their 80s and 90s that I know, the advice is to just keep moving and keep being active. I could lose about 40 pounds though which would make things easier but I like food.

I have made some decisions about my long term health care. We all should plan.

I do know that I do not want to live to the point where I can no longer take care of my personal needs and move about. I have a couple underlying health issues that will take care of that for me.

My doctor has tried to convince me that I should do surgical interventions. I told her after our discussions that I am at peace about going suddenly. I have been told that is my likely outcome. I am not afraid anymore. I will live my time I am comfortable in the knowledge I am doing what I want to do. My family knows this.

The funny thing is I am probably in as externally good shape as a 70 plus year old man has a right to be. Sure I don't move about like I used to, but I do not need to ask for help either.

I dont want anyone to feel sorry for me. I have told my son what to do when I do go. He will take care of things, just like I did for my family members who passed.

OK, get me a medium rare hunk of prime rib, a baked potato with all the trimmings, and a salad with lots of blue cheese dressing. Don't skimp on the hot rolls and butter. Bring it on.

No, not particularly. But we just booked a family summer beach trip so I’m going to have to get my fat *** in shape. Starting is always the problem, staying in routine is not so tough. I do ride an exercise bike every day. Usually for about an hour, or 4 beers worth of time.

I have a brother-in-law (my other brother-in-law, not the Wisconsin graduate) who I guaranteed would live to be 100. His face fell.

Has anyone thought of cremation when they go?

I have made plans. I have left directions on where I want my ashes to be spread. None of this putting me in a container that sits in the closet or fireplace.

Where will my ashes be spread? 1. My childhood yard. I have only fond memories of that place. 2. The trees behind the home where I raised my kids. Again, only fond memories. 3. The beach at Stone Harbor, NJ. If there is an afterlife spending it on that beach would make me content.

When it is done my kids have been told to take their significant others and their Mom and go to the Lobster House in Cape May and enjoy a meal. Being there with them has always made me happy. The funny thing is news of my plans have spread and we have a list ofpeople who want to join in, enough to fill a bus. I am not sure whether they will be happy to see me dead, or if they just want to be part of the experience. Either way they are welcome.

Yeah, don't put your ashes in an urn. Don't want this to happen:

Healthy for being 76. I have been an exercise nut for ever. Do need to do weights a bit more. I do at least 4-5 saunas a week after workouts. I always feel great after.
I have avoided exercise since I quit playing basketball in my twenties. The way I look at it I was born with only so many heartbeats to use. Why waste them on something that does not involve a woman, a bed, and 70s rock blaring on the stereo?

I'm 64, 5-11, 195 pounds. In good shape for my age, I think. Trying to drop ten pounds. My workout routine is 20-30 minutes on the Peloton followed by 30 minutes of dumb bell lifts. Try to do that 3-4 times a week.

Yeah, we re-did our wills and it’s cremation for both of us. I need to get on plots in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

I would encourage you to think about avoiding a cemetary. Your family will be better off knowing you are where you were most happy.

No. But working on it. 6'2". 256 lbs. Age 49.

Got diagnosed with high blood pressure. Heart echo is good. My bloodwork is good to decent.

Of course I got yelled at for being heavy. I was 264. But im having a tough time shaking the weight. Even with eating decently, counting calories and exercise.

Im thinking of seeing a nutrition guy to see if he can help. Any one in the Altoona/Johnstown area got any recommendations? Id prefer not to use drugs. I can do the work.

Thank you but my entire family is at Gate of Heaven. Both sets of grandparents, my parents, my aunts and uncles both sides, numerous cousins. I’m from a big DMV family, we’re all very close, and many of my cousins have already booked a plot there, my sisters too.

Good idea to see a nutritionist.

The best advice given to me was avoid eating anything that was white. Potatoes, pasta, bread, rice, sugar and milk. Of course, nobody can do that. It took me twelve years to get to where I am now eating minimal things from that list, and not much read meat. Along the way I have lost over 70 lbs. I am around 200 lbs now, and happy with where I am at.

Once you get to your target weight you won't believe how much you can eat if you have lots of tasty vegetables, non creamy sauces, and less oil and butter. Olive oil can be your friend.

If I can do that anyone can do it.

Definitely. I've worked out 4-5 days a week for the last 30 years. I turn 50 in December and would say I'm in better shape than 99% of the men my age.

I did the Mediterranean diet pretty strict for about 15 of those years until I started developing issues like GERD, IBS, sleep apnea and fibromyalgia. Next thing I know I'm on 5 medications to manage them. I tried 4-5 different diets until I found one that eliminated all my issues (keto).

Now I sauna 4-5 days a week and use red light therapy every other day. I do cold showers too, although the water only gets cold enough where I live in the winter for it to be effective. I probably need to add some cardio but I really don't enjoy it. I walked the dog daily until she passed away. I probably need to get another dog to get out there walking again but her loss hit me hard.

I'm 72, 6'2" 240lbs. So, not in as good a shape as most here but I still walk 10,000 steps/day and do minor machine workouts 3X/week. I try to lose weight but my medical treatment includes a steroid so it's been tough. But I keep at it. I too will be cremated and my ashes spread on the field at the Beave ( ;) yes, I'm kidding)

We have spread ashes of friends in Lot 34 where we tailgate, not all of the ashes just some. Me personally, I want a Viking funeral.
Put me in a long boat on our local Deer Lake, and light the pyre!

Hmm, I pretty sure that's not the way it works.

6', 175 here - same as I was back at Penn State over 40 years ago. My health is great except for somewhat elevated cholesterol. In the past year, I backpacked 500 miles, cycled 1000 miles, usually hit the gym 3X/wk. I avoid sweets/desserts for the most part and limit alcohol to about 1 drink per week on average. Although with the season, the football team is having, I've been thinking about drinking more heavily.

I have the body of a 75 year old…problem is I’m only 60. And I’m doing cremation as well, but I require my ashes to be divided into two urns and my son and daughter each have to keep an urn, keep it clean, and take care of it forever…I tell them if I have to take care of them my whole life, they have to take care of me for their whole life after I go.
