Me too. I've tried the nicotine gum in the past and it made me want to take a dip even more...

I stupidly started dipping to quit smoking. Very stupid. Thinking about ecigs to quit.

My experience....
I chewed Redman for over thirty years.
Having a much too young brother die from lung cancer made me just plain old quit about seven years ago.

E-cigs were the trick to end my 30 year smoking habit. Highly recommended.

I have a piece in now. If you are serious about quitting I recommend it. You'll get into a groove where you unconsciously start chewing whenever a craving comes and it will lose a lot of its pull, which (I believe) teaches you how to say no, repeatedly, which is what it comes down to. I prefer it over e-cig, but I know people who have had success with it too.

Should I start out with 2mg or 4? Whats the best flavor(s)? I tried the e-cig. It was ok, I just prefer to have something in my mouth. I'm extremely serious about quitting. My problem is right after I eat, & when I drink I really crave it. Any other suggestions in quitting would be appreciated.

Is nicorette the best or are any of the generics good?

while you're trying...drink as much grapefruit juice as you can hold until the nicotine is pissed out of your system. Then keep drinking it. Even if you light up the grapefruit taste will make the cigarette smoke taste pretty damn bad.

Quit smoking cold turkey back in February, smoked 15 years. Greatest thing ever, changed my entire life. Good luck man, if the nicorette works go for it.

I use the generic 2mgs from Walgreens but I had only been smoking a pack a day for three years, close to half a pack a day for four years before. I have a roommate who has been smoking roughly that for roughly that amount of time who is using the 4mgs. I'd say if you can wait an hour or two before dipping when you wake up, start with 2, but if it is compulsory upon waking up I would start with 4.

Gave up snuff 3 years ago. Unfortunately been hooked on nicotine gum for the same amount of time. Less carcinogen though I guess?
Nicotine is the son of satan.

I quit smoking with Chantix and have been smoke-free for 7+ years now. I assume that it would also be effective if trying to quit smokeless tobacco. It absolutely works better than anything out there...and yes, I had tried the gum and patches many times, to no avail.

All the warnings about Chantix are sorta scary. Did you experience any of the mental effects mentioned, like depression or suicidal thoughts? Or is that all CYA by the drug company?

Quit smoking cold turkey a year ago after I got the swine flu/pneumonia. Smoked over 30 years always tried something new but cold turkey is the best. Get ready to gain 50 or more pounds,

If you call the Mississippi Tobaccoo Quitline, they will send you the gum free. One thing is for certain. If you don't really want to quit then it won't happen. My bride has been on my arse about it since we started dating, and that itself isn't enough motivation. My insurance premiums making my pockets lighter is what's making me quit.

I quit dipping over a year ago. I had dipped for over 10 years. I used smokey mountain chew. It's an herbal dip. Non tobacco. Non nicotine. It tastes close to dip. Feels like dip. I mixed in with my Copenhagen for a couple weeks and slowly put more and more of the fake dip in until I was dipping all fake stuff. And I dipped a lot of that fake stuff but it worked.

I'm a quitter. Sat in a bar on a slow night talking to a female bartender I wanted to get to know better than I already did. Smoked a whole pack in a few hours time, woke up next morning mouth tasted and felt like all the butts and ashes were under my tongue, havent had one since and that was 30 years ago.

That's the main thing. Folks say they want to quit all the time but the only ones who truly want to can go through with it.

I quit dipping cold turkey Oct. 4, 2011. I set a date that I would remember and challenged myself. Now granted, I only dipped for 5-6 years, but nicotine has a way of messing up your quit plans. Withdrawal won't kill you, and each day that passes becomes easier to say no. Think of it as a challenge to your will-power or manhood.

The tobacco is what contains the carcinogens, but nicotine is what keeps you coming back, which is why I didn't try nicotine gum. Just something else that becomes a habit, in my opinion.

Circle a date on the calendar, get your friends and family to hold you accountable, challenge yourself and do it. And keep plenty of sugar free gum and hard candies around. The urges will grow less and less each time.

I'm a doctor and addiction is within my scope of practice. Chantix works well. Wellbutrin is another option. Would discuss concerns w/ your provider before starting, but in general chantix is a worth a shot and if you can't tolerate it try something else. E-cig data are preliminary right now, people have a feeling that they're probably a better option but how well they work isn't really fleshed out yet. good luck.

No, I did not have those issues. I struggle with depression with or without Chantix, but did not notice it getting better or worse while on it. I did have extremely vivid and even disturbing dreams while on it. This was a bit bizarre, but tolerable for the benefit the drug brought me.
