OT: Destin Fl oysters

Anyone have any off the wall suggestions for great oysters on the half shell in the area? The normal tourist places I’d prefer to avoid if possible but just curious of opinions

Never had the oysters, but Pompano Joes down in Mirmar is good. Those grilled crab legs are great.

Auston’s in Miramar by the outlets has good food including oysters. It’s newer and not on the beach so you don’t have crazy lines. We went at around 6:00 a few weeks ago and had no wait. Restaurant was steadily full. The bar tender at another restaurant recommended it.

Bud and Alley's is totally touristy and expensive, but it's totally worth the visit if you've never been.

Don’t go to crab trap for fresh seafood. It’s neither fresh nor local. Back porch is good though.

On the OPs question, I’m not an oyster fan, so I can’t really give good advice on that. In my opinion, the best seafood in destin is either harbor docks or Dewey destin. Both get fresh seafood. Good chance you can eat fish that was caught that day. Harbor docks also has great sushi.

Thanks I knew it had to be fiction but you can see the fact from previous days. Kinda like you have to nuke pork or you will get sick. I still cannot get medium or medium rare pork past anyone from my parents generation. They also look at me cross eyed when I tell them they are more likely to get trichinosis from deer meat than from pork meat.

Harbor Docks may be my favorite restaurant there. They owner also owns the boats that supply many of the restaurants in town. They have a sushi roll called the Panty Dropper. For some reason it’s not listed on the menu, but it’s awesome. And it works.

Stinks Fish Camp is excellent. One of the owners(Chefs) actually went to State for a while before he decided on culinary school in New Orleans.

Not an oyster guy but Boshamps is very good. Was actually on a snapper trip with one of their employees who was catching fish to be served at the restaurant.

Yeah that's a good comparison - in fact I'm with the old heads on medium pork, even knowing it's nearly 100% safe. I look at it as, if some folks don't want to enjoy oysters sometimes, that's more for me.
