Did you not watch the Oregon game? Alongside Tariq, Lino’s energy and ability to get to the paint, finish and hit 7/8 free throws is why we won.No, he doesn't usually make them. Lino, and JMike are both in the bottom 8% in the nation with their shooting %'s at the rim, both under 39%. Expand it to in the paint and Lino at 33% (JMike 42%), bottom 1/3rd in the country and it just gets worse farther out.
Look at Jmike's freshman year where he was forced onto the court like Lino now. His numbers were better across the board. Maybe Lino develops better than JMike did, but not sure it happens. Remember, JMike was better in HS too.
I'm no trying to shi.. on Lino, he's a freshman. Other than speedy activity, he hasn't added much. He works on D.
Yes, I saw the Oregon game. That happens to be the only game he got a game score above 10 (10.7) which means an average game for a college player (also, JMike w same score against Oregon). An outstanding performance can get a 40. He's had 7 games where he got a negative.Did you not watch the Oregon game? I don’t think Jmike, has had a bigger impact on a single power 5 win this year, and he’s played more than double the minutes! Correct me if I’m wrong
Having an impact in one game isn't exactly a selling point.I don’t think it’s a fair comparison to line up Game Score or PER between players in completely different roles. One is the lead minute guard, the other is essentially the 9th or 10th man. Those metrics are always going to favor the player with more minutes and possessions, and they also don’t take defense or hustle into account.
Jmike’s ND and MSU Game Scores are also irrelevant to my point because we lost both of those games. I’m talking about who has had a bigger impact on P5 games we actually won.
Considering we’ve only won two P5 games all year, it actually isHaving an impact in one game isn't exactly a selling point.
Sure, if you say so.Considering we’ve only won two P5 games all year, it actually is
Sure, if you say so.
Look, I dont expect freshman to perform well, but maybe we'd have more wins if he made an impact in his minutes in other games? He's played more minutes than every freshman but Zrno. The only player w a lower PER is Nwuli (and Ware who doesnt play). At this point, Lino plays decent D and I think he rebounds well as a PG. Otherwise he's pretty bad right now.
You are the one arguing for the 9th man you now admit is having no effectYou can say that about literally anyone on any team. Of course a team might have more wins if insert* player played better. That being said, Lino is the 9th or 10th man, and his role barely dictates the outcome of the game
Props to Francis — he seized the opportunity at NJIT and jumped into P5 when the chance came. Why did Simpson stay at St Joes with all those P5 offers last offseason? In a “poor” game for Simpson today, he had 13 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals. Would have liked to see in tandem with Francis.
He was better than both JMike and Williams.Lol people are still acting like Simpson transferred because of jamichael davis. He transferred because of Dylan Harper, Simpson was Rutgers' lead guard, Dylan Harper signed on to be Rutgers' lead guard. Rutgers also had Jeremiah Williams at guard..Simpson transferred because there wasn't room in the starting line up. Yes, this years version of Simpson would be the 2nd best player on this years Rutgers team and would probably lead to more wins.
So you're saying the staff pushed Simpson out? Hey, you might be related to Simpson and have that information. If that's the case, the coaches were definitely wrong. But I go with what makes sense to me, if I'm not mistaken, Simpson had one of the worst shooting percentages in the NCAA for players that took that amount of shots. Highly touted freshman coming in to take your spot, makes sense to me that he would transfer out on his own to get a fresh start. Nice to see him doing well this year..He was better than both JMike and Williams.
Knew RHJ was one and done.
He came off the bench last year at St.Joe’s.
So signs point no to playing time argument.
It absolutely did have to do with keeping Ace Bait happy, a very low-major starter at best: HBCU, Wagner, LIU etc. Ace Bait is usually terrible every minute he’s on the court. Pike gambled that there’d be a big payoff last year and with future recruiting following the expected tourney run but the gamble busted epicly.Lol people are still acting like Simpson transferred because of jamichael davis. Or took those shots because we literally had no other options. So you're saying the staff pushed Simpson out? Hey, you might be related to Simpson and have that information. Not buying it lol doesn't make sense..It absolutely did have to do with keeping Ace Bait happy, a very low-major starter at best: HBCU, Wagner, LIU etc. Ace Bait is usually terrible every minute he’s on the court. I agree, I just doubt it was the coaches pushing him out..Or took those shots because we literally had no other options.
Great rebounder as a guard.
One of best foul shooters in the nation.
Could break presses on his own.
Nice assist to turnover ratio
Elite speed and defense and lots of steals.
Should have retained him.
Idk, Pike really wanted shooters around Dylan and Ace last year, and was already going to have JMike and JWill who he knew couldn't space the floor. I could see DS having been nudged.I agree, I just doubt it was the coaches pushing him out..
I mean I guess if z guy is starting, taking the most shots in the team and you bring him in and tell him he will be getting reduced minutes next season. But the idea that he was pushed out to make room for jmike is what I'm disagreeing with.. Simpson would not have been expected to get close to the amount of shots he got at st joes last year.Idk, Pike really wanted shooters around Dylan and Ace last year, and was already going to have JMike and JWill who he knew couldn't space the floor. Will simplify for you: would Pike have offered JMiss if he weren’t so close to Ace? Of course not. The other Ace suitor Auburn also offered Ace Bait. If not for that JMiss would be at low major program and most likely not starting. It was a package deal. Not buying it lol doesn't make sense..
You keep insinuating that RU didn't keep DS when that simply isn’t true. He opted to leave, which makes your post odd. He didn’t “stay” and you can’t keep saying how he’d perform at the P4 level when he had that chance and gave it up.Close to home??
Found a place he’s comfortable.
Is this what we have come to, criticizing a player for staying?
Do you want to apply that logic to the RU roster??
SMH
I wish Derek stayed, but JMike had a better high school career than either Derek or current Lino Mark, so don't buy that Ace is only reason we recruited him, but it definitely played a role. JMike junior year #'s are all that far off from Derek's last year junior numbers, no reason JD won't progress. Not saying he will, but who knows. Will simplify for you: would Pike have offered JMiss if he weren’t so close to Ace? Of course not. The other Ace suitor Auburn also offered Ace Bait. Often a star recruit’s dad or coach is hired by a school to land the player. In this case it was his best friend. That’s how recruiting works, in addition to $$$$.
JMiss is as far from being a Big10 recruit and starter as any D1 player could possibly be, but he had ‘connections’ as they say.
The gamble failed, Simpson left, and what you see now is a basketball travesty at PG.
The only reason. No chance Pike was going to Chattanooga , Tennesse or Deliverance, Georgia or wherever to recruit a microguard who has no moves, can’t finish at the rim and can’t shoot except as Ace Bait.I wish Derek stayed, but JMike had a better high school career than either Derek or current Lino Mark, so don't buy that Ace is only reason we recruited him, but it definitely played a role. No chance? He just went to LA and did the same thing again with Mark. The only reason. No chance Pike was going to Chattanooga , Tennesse or Deliverance, Georgia or wherever to recruit a microguard who has no moves, can’t finish at the rim and can’t shoot except as Ace Bait.
Sure, at the time it made sense. Package deal. But in hindsight it was a failure bc we didnt win with Ace, we’re stuck with a weak player now and the much better player saw the favoritism coming a mile away and left.
To see Nwuli. No chance? He just went to LA and did the same thing again with Mark.
apples and furniture. he was recruiting Nwuli and first noticed Mark there.and Mark was much more highly rated, had more offers and from higher level programs. No chance? He just went to LA and did the same thing again with Mark.
All it took was four college seasons for him to get his shooting percentage above 37%, though he has been consistent enough to keep his three-point percentage at 30%.Nice game leading St. Joes to an upset win on the road over Richmond.
Leading scorer with 19 points.
Leading rebounder with 13!
Leading minutes with 37.
One turnover all game.
5-9 from 3.
What might have been?
I can't tell if you're trolling or seriousTo see Nwuli.
apples and furniture. he was recruiting Nwuli and first noticed Mark there.and Mark was much more highly rated, had more offers and from higher level programs.
if you can’t see that the only reason Ace Bait was recruited from the same high school was the package deal, and losing a much better player was collateral damage, then you simply don’t understand recruiting and retention.
Huh? RU was recruiting Bailey and found JMike in the same way. Yes, Mark was higher rated, but JMike actually had better stats in high school, across the board, only against maybe slightly lower comp.To see Nwuli.

The upshot is that he found the right place for him.Simpson w 17, 5, and 5 tonight
