I still can’t believe that Woodstock was only CSNY’s second live gig. The first being a bar in front of around 500 people. Southern Cross may be be the best rock ‘n roll harmony I’ve ever heard. RIP

That’s a famous line from Woodstock but it’s somewhat misleading. Crosby, Young, and Stills we’re all in Buffalo Springfield prior to Woodstock. In any case, great talent.

Long Time Gone is also an excellent tune penned by Crosby.
Although I'm one of CSNY's biggest fans, Jefferson Airplane's version of Wooden Ships is IMO better. Jorma's guitarwork on that tune is from heaven.
BTW, Graham Nash tells a story of walking in to Crosby's dressing room as two hot female twins were taking turns giving him head. The activity continued as Nash had a conversation with Crosby and as Nash finished the conversation and left the room.

It was the Spring of either 1980, 81 or maybe 82 ??? ... Crosby performed a live Solo show outside on the grassy area between the Busch Student Center and Davidson road... By Solo, I mean him without any of CSNY. He did have a band. There was a pretty big grassy area before that whole area was reconfigured. As a big fan I was there, but definitely don't recall much about the concert. But do remember how surprised I was that someone of that stature would be performing outside on Busch campus in that small area.

i really love the CSNY version. I just really, really love the Jefferson Airplane version...mostly because of Jorma's guitar. I've seen him a number of times with Hot Tuna after he left the Airplane.
I've also always liked Marty Balin's vocals.

Whoa fella.... Not to steer this off course, but no band has stacked harmonies like those orchestrated by Brian Wilson. Listen to "Pet Sounds."

I'v been laughing at the Beachboys and their pop nonsense for over fifty years. They're the only act I've ever booed at a concert. We were there (Roosevelt Racetrack in NY) for CSNY, but had to sit through the Wilsons' pablum until they left the stage and we could listen to some real rock and roll.

I always liked "So You Want to be a Rock and Roll Star" and just learned how to play it on my guitar - not all that difficult but it took a while to get the tempo down. Fun to play. Hillman and one of the others wrote it.

Oh, I definitely agree about Marrakesh Express and Our House. Those are Graham Nash tunes if I remember correctly. That was Nash's contribution to the group....bubblegum pop tunes like those created by his original band...The Hollies and also , of course, the Little Surfer Girl boys. Not a fan.
I have seen CSNY many, many times....most recently at the Garden State Arts Center too many years ago. I think it was the last time they toured as CSNY. I came to the band by way of my love for Buffalo Springfield, particularly Stephen Stills' and Neil Young's guitar work. Some of my favorite concert moments over the years were those two taking turns trading guitar solos....particularly on Southern Man. I recommend the live version of that tune on CSNY's album 4-Way Street. Pure awesomeness.
Now, which Beachboys tune do you enjoy rocking to ?
BTW, although I've seen CSNY many times, I've never been interested enough to see CSN.

I was at that show.
Funny story: we had a good group going to that show and I had the tickets....at least I thought I did.
I forgot them and had to drive all the way back to Newark to retrieve them from our kitchen table.
Luckily I made it back in time. My friends never let me hold the tickets after that experience.

I remember when he was arrested in NYC for possession. I think it was marijuana. It was a while ago so I might not rememver the story correctly, but what I remember is he had checked out of his hotel but left his clothes and his luggage in the room. When the hotel personnel packed up his stuff so the next guest could use the room they found the weed and called the cops.
