United Airlines computers were down all morning, halting flights.

Now the NY Stock exchange is shut down, citing a computer failure..

Hopefully the rivals network isn't next!!!

Now that you mention rivals it is funny that just today I tried to make billing changes but was told over the phone that the computers won`t allow it for a few more days lol. No more premium for me until they get their crap together...sucks.

IMHO there is no way these are not related. My guess is that they do not want to cause a panic on Wall Street and start a fire sale of stocks and people from not getting on planes.

Putting aside for a moment the fact that Stupid Web Site is largely a fabrication, the NYSE's trading systems can't be reached by a DoS attack.

The NYSE is saying that it wasn't an attack (and was related to an upgrade - *ahem* - that was installed this morning), and United has been having trouble with its computer systems for a while, for what it's worth.

That said, there's a scenario in a Tom Clancy book where the stock market is messed up by a virus introduced in a software upgrade . . .
