Whisky Tango Foxtrot

Ive been hearing about it but thought it was just over sensationalizing. Watched some YouTube videos. Good grief. I need to take a shower.

Havent used my Netflix subscription in a while anyway, so went ahead and canceled. Will gladly go back after they cancel the movie. Hate to think any of my money is going toward financing the sexual exploitation of children.

Actors were ACTUALLY 11 and 12 years old. Couldn’t they find young looking adults?

I have kids, nieces, cousins all in the same age group. Can’t imagine what the adults in the room had going through their minds allowing this.

Haven’t seen it. Saw some clips that were extremely disturbing, but possible they’ve been taken out of context? The wife and I were planning on trying to watch it tonight to see if it’s been overly sensationalized or if it’s basically softcore child porn.

I can’t imagine a context that would justify what I saw. The clips I watched were fairly long, so plenty to develop any context needed I would think.

I dont know how Netflix ratings work, so didnt want to give child porn a “click” just in case. Glad I didnt.

I felt like you initially. I though it might just be some issues with context. Then I read comments from Netflix defending it as having a message against sexualizing children. Then I decided to watch a clip.

It's horrific. Netflix deserves to go out of business for pushing something like that. If you're trying to make a statement against sexualizing 11 year old girls, you don't do that by sexualizing 11 year old girls. It's akin to setting puppies on fire to demonstrate the horrors of animal cruelty. Plus, that show is going to end up being candy for freaks. There is no justification for it.

But then again, in this day and age, a lot of stuff is happening that there isn't any justification for.

Their defense is pathetic. That’s the equivalent of making a show against killing cops by filming people actually killing cops.

Yeah I read an interview with a director and the theme of it is not that bad. It’s about how parents need to get back to raising their kids because in today’s society a lot of kids, and girls in particular, are being raised and influenced by the internet.

That being said the way she and Netflix went about it has been all wrong and gross. The poster of it that Netflix had to take down was awful and the clips that have surfaced of it is gross. It should have never been aired and the people who ok’d that and it’s production should be fired

I’ve got the prettiest little 11 year old niece on the planet and watching the clip I watched quite literally had me on the verge of upchucking thinking of her being exposed and showcased like that. And I’m just an uncle. Those are someone’s little girls. If they are subjecting their kids to that in public and on film then what in the holy hell are they teaching them and subjecting them to behind closed doors.

I don’t pretend to be a lawyer or a prosecutor but every last person responsible for the planning, filming, producing, and the powers that be at netflix that thought that was ok for their platform should be forced to register as a sex offender.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, this kind of thing is becoming more and more accepted. Take this new law that California's governor just signed into law this week. It's now a misdemeanor instead of a felony for an adult to have sex with a 14 year old - and the offender doesn't get registered as a sex offender.

It's hard for 11-year-olds humping the ground with their tongues hanging out to be taken out of context.

From what I’ve heard about it & seeing the promo picture, I have no desire to even give it a chance. There’s some sick people out there.

Maybe I haven’t seen the same clips you guys have seen. I saw some short (30 seconds or so) clips that were disturbing. I guess I’m hoping that someone wouldn’t actually make a movie that sexualizes 11 year old girls. I would expect that the clips I saw would immediately be followed by an adult character intervening and having a teaching moment with the girls. I’m gonna do some more research and then re-evaluate whether we should give the movie a chance.

The clip I saw basically had the girls in a sequined leotard humping the floor only to then roll over with their legs spread for the audience.

I'm sorry but the social mobs disagrees and says you are a "list" or "ism" and you should report for re-education.

https://slate.com/culture/2020/09/n...onservatives-are-obsessed-with-the-movie.html

Considering how few of Cuties’ attackers have actually seen the film, countering their criticisms with facts feels a little like bringing a knife to a gunfight. Those labeling it child pornography seem to have adopted a modified version of Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart’s adage: They know it when they don’t see it. By definition, pornography requires intent, and whether or not Doucouré succeeded (and the reviews are divided on this point), her intent is clear. The movie’s protagonist, Amy, is an 11-year-old bouncing between the repressive culture of her conservative Islamic upbringing, where she is warned that “evil shows itself in the scantily clad women,” and the hypersexualized environment of Western culture, where images of adult women doing strip-club gyrations are emulated by tweens on social media for likes. The movie presents those images in order to critique them, in a way that could not possibly be more clear: When Amy and the titular dance troupe she’s formed with three schoolmates finally perform in front of an audience, Doucouré repeatedly cuts away to the disgusted adults watching them, some booing, some covering their children’s eyes.

From the clips I’ve seen, if you find that entertainment then you’ve got issues and the people defending it are just saying that to push buttons.

I don’t know if there trying to drive up viewership through the controversy or what.

It’s a pretty piss poor argument. People are not arguing the overall plot or message of the movie. The argument is the obvious sexual exploitation of 11 year old girls. You don’t have to watch the whole film to see an 11 year old humping the floor, her butt hanging out, her blowing up a condom, pulling her pants out and taking a picture of her crotch, spreading her legs and rubbing her crotch with her tongue out.

Like someone mentioned above. I don’t have to see the whole movie in order to see that they set puppies on fire.

“All tHesE fOlks AinT evUn wAtcHt tHa mOviE anD waNt to ComMent oN it”. 17n stupid.

1- I am laughing at the cancel culture application here. Good stuff guys, keep doing it and keep not recognizing the inconsistency and hypocrisy.

2- I saw a YouTube clip that I'm guessing is what many others saw. I also read that the movie is a statement against that which it seems to be.
The clip I saw made me not want to watch the movie and I dont need a movie to convince me to protect and delay the sexualization of my daughters.
It doesn't seem like a movie I will want to watch.

I don’t think this falls under the “cancel culture”

category. This is not wanting my money to go toward the distribution of child pornography. The only thing that a company like Netflix understands is $$$. Doesn’t seem that common decency will do the trick.

Cancel culture is trying to get something or someone fired/canceled because you don’t share the same political beliefs.

Trying to protect children from sexual exploitation vs a disagreement over politics.

This is a bipartisan issue by the way. I saw where Tulsi Gabbard has hammered Netflix on the issue also.

You guys just need to calm down a notch or 3. 50 years ago, openly homosexual couples, characters didn’t exist on TV either.

Eta. Gotcha.

I’m not really following you here. So are you saying it’s ok to sexualize 11 year olds?
No, sir.

Just that things are moving pretty fast these days. It’s scary. Who knows what will be “ok” according to our grandkids?

It is kinda disturbing. Used to teach in JXN and some of those gyrations by the dancing girls with the band are kinda something else. Yes those are high school age but still...Kinda inappropriate.

You are cancelling and started a thread to bring attention on the issue to others.
I'm not saying your decision is wrong or isn't justified. I can totally see this being something that is too much for someone and causes them to cancel.
It's just...well you did what so many complain about- cancel and notify others. Let's just admit that this sort of thing has happened all along and isn't new- people cancel supporting others/businesses/programs, etc when ideals no longer align.

I didn't say or suggest you are cancelling netflix. My comment wasn't even directed to you. And I agree its a messed up movie and way to express the director/writer's point.

Oh, and go 17 yourself with bruiser's corn dog. I pointed out what is funny to me(inconsistency) and posted that I dont like the movie's theme. Things like what i posted only seem to be too hostile for you at certain times.

Do you think “Cuties” is worthy of cancellation? “Yes” or “no” will do just fine.
